Can I train my skinny grazing cat to eat raw food on a schedule?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 12 lbs

I see it commonly recommended that a cat's left over food be taken up no more than an hour after feeding. Since I feed my cat a homemade raw diet I can see the wisdom of that. The problem is that my skinny cat is a grazer, not a gorger, and she will usually empty her dish sooner or later. What are the chances of training her to eat her fill in 2 meals a day instead of in this bit-by-bit pattern?

Its very difficult to train a cat to eat on a schedule different than what her body tells her. There may be some raw based diets in the form of a kibble or a dehydrated formula. They may keep better than the form you are offering Lulu. In the wild cats eat 9-16 times a day so thats what her body naturally wants to do. I would recommend to look into other food options.
