My cat got a rabies shot. Can it hurt unborn kittens? Are pink nipples a sign?

Will rabies shots hurt or kill unborn kittens? We got tabby her rabies shot two days ago and today when i was petting her i noticed that her nipples looked a little pinker. Could she be pregnant at this young of an age?

All Rabies vaccines are killed vaccines, which means that there is no live virus that is injected into the pet; therefore there is no concerns for pets that are pregnant when vaccinated with these vaccines. Your pet Tabby will be just fine.
And to answer your other question, yes pets can get pregnant the first time they go into heat, and cats usually go into heat around 6-8 months. If you have concerns that she may be pregnant then you can get her ultrasounded 35 days after the time in which you think she was impregnated or x-rayed 45 days after that time frame. You will also see her gaining a lot of weight and an increase in her appetite. Hopefully she isn't pregnant however and the pinker than normal nipples are just a transient flushing of the skin due to ambient temperature or stress.

Cat nipples pink after mating, then not. Could she have miscarried?

If Tasha miscarried her kittens, there would have been a bloody discharge. A cat's nipples will become pink when she is in heat and will turning to normal when she is out of heat. You wouldn't see nipple changes due to pregnancy right after mating, that takes time. It's likely that the color change and swelling you noted were due to her being in heat. In a few weeks, I would take Tasha into the vet to confirm if she is pregnant or not.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Khloe has been in heat and goes outdoors unobserved or lives with an intact male cat then she could be pregnant. I can’t tell by the picture because the nipples look relatively normal to me. Hormones can make them pinker and longer. Normal pregnancy lengths in cats is 60-63 days. I hope this helps!

How many kitten shots? Rabies side effects, precautions & spay age?

She needs a round of vaccines (usually feline distemper, possible feline leukemia and FIV as well) every 3-4 weeks started at 6-8 weeks of age and continuing until she's had 2 rounds AFTER 12 weeks old. So the number can vary depending on how you space them and when you start. For rabies, side effects are very rare (less than other vaccines, where side effects are already low). For any vaccine, side effects to watch out for are vomiting, extreme lethargy, and significant facial swelling. Finally, she should be spayed around 5-6 months of age.

Hello, Rules on vaccination for spaying cats will vary from every independent hospital. I would recommend calling low cost spay and neuter programs in your area to discuss getting her spayed and at minimal, a rabies vaccination. Many hospitals spay trapped feral cats who have never been vaccinated, so I don't think you will have any problem finding someone to help you out. :) I hope this is helpful! Pregnant cat 63 days: nipples smaller, lost appetite. Should I worry?

While some people notice a change in the nipples when a cat is pregnant it is not a very accurate predictor. I think you should see a veterinarian to confirm the pregnancy and make sure the kittens are okay and not in distress. Occasionally cats will need help with labor either through medical management or a c-section and if she is 63 days today it would be a good idea to check for signs of fetal distress.
