Why is my cat pulling fur and my other cat hiding with watery eyes?

It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

Midnight could have allergies, fleas, or a bacterial skin infection. Inspect her for any fleas and then treat with a medication, like Revolution, Bravecto, or Frontline. If she has allergies or a skin infection then she would need to be treated by a vet with an antihistamine, corticosteroid, and/or an antibiotic. Some cats also pull out hair from stress so you could also try a Feliway diffuser/spray and talk to your vet about an anti-anxiety medication to help.

Fur pulling can be a behavioural response to stress, or it could be due to a medical problem such as itching from bacterial infection, ringworm, mites or fleas, or allergies. Contact with a male human is unlikely to be the cause. More common causes of stress would include any new human (male or female), new pets, change in environment, stressful noises, or stress due to pain. I would start by eliminating any potential stressors, if present. You can also try using a feline pheromone spray called Feliway, which can help to reduce stress in cats. If this does not help, I would recommend getting him seen by the vet. They can perform some skin tests such as a skin scraping, cytology, or fungal culture, to rule out a medical problem, and prescribe appropriate medical treatments if so. I would be concerned about possible allergies, ectoparasites such as mites, or bacterial infection. I would recommend bringing Cairo in for an examination by the vet. They can test for parasites and determine the appropriate treatment for him based on examination. This may include topical medications, oral medications or injections depending on what they find on his physical examination and history.

That could be due to an allergic disorder (usually flea allergy dermatitis), presence of parasites, or psychogenic type of overgrooming (usually related to stress). The different causes must be ruled out treating for parasites, giving meds for allergies and eventually trying to remove stress causes. A check is then required. If she isn't on a flea preventative, that is one thing she should get on right away. Some cats have an allergy to flea bites, and all it takes is one flea to cause the itch to start. You may not find a couple fleas with a flea comb. Since she has trauma to her skin, I would recommend that you have Meow Meow examined by the vet. She may need an antibiotic or anti-inflammatory while we work on why she is pulling out her hair. I am Sorry to hear that Neo is exerpwicing these issues with his fur. It sounds like he is a happy and healthy cat otherwise! A few different things could be happening that I would be advise investigating. It could be possible that Neo has seasonal or environmental allergies. This might mean he would benefit from regular medication which could be prescribed from your veterinarian. As you were only there 5 months ago they may be happy to write you a prescription without a visit to the clinic. It is also possible that there is an underlying medical condition. Such as kidney disease or hyperthyroidism. I would advise ruling out the simple first and trying to treat for allergies. If after a few weeks his hair hasn't started to come back in with the medication, then perhaps try investigating further causes with a blood test and potentially a skin scrape.
