Why is my cat pooping blood? Is it constipation or other issues?

I see blood in my cats stool and a drop blood on the floor is it because of constipation ?

Constipation can cause blood but there are many other causes that are more common like infections and parasites. I recommend to have Talson examined and have the stool checked (make sure to bring in a fresh sample) for parasites. A bland diet may also help. Best of luck.

Thanks for using PetCoach. Both roundworms and a sudden change in diet can cause diarrhea with blood. I'd recommend treating the roundworms with something like this.

Consider adding a probiotic like Forti-Flora to help as well.

If no improvement in 3 days of treatment - or worsening at any time, its time to see your vet.

Intestinal worms are a cause of both diarrhea and blood in the stools in cats, but it can also be caused by GI polyps, a foreign body, severe GI disease, trauma to the GI tract, and GI tumors among others. Having blood in the feces is serious, and it's always recommended to have a cat with that checked out by a vet. I would see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or check the internet for resources to afford a vet in France. There are OTC dewormers you can get to treat worms, but Vee should still see a vet for the blood in his stools.

When you notice blood in your cat's feces you need to take him to the vet ASAP, worms is an option but not a very common one to cause bleeding, there are a lot of other conditions that are more likely to be the cause of this symptom such as IBD, tumor or food allergy.

There can be many things causing this, including IBD, intestinal lymphoma, constipation causing trauma to the colon, intestinal parasites, anal gland issues, rectal polyps, bleeding/clotting disorders, among many others. I would recommend that Scooter be evaluated by your veterinarian to see what could be the cause and to receive appropriate treatment.

My recently adopted cat has blood in his stool. Should I see a vet?

Thanks for adopting Eli. Blood in the stool without constipation is often due to intestinal parasites. Please take a sample to your veterinarian and they will look under the microscope for parasite eggs. If they find some they will prescribe the correct dewormer for Eli. If there are no parasites and this continues Eli should go in for an exam. He could have an anal infection, rectal polyp or intestinal inflammation causing the blood. Cats do have blood in the stool more often than other animals so if he's normal and this only happens once in a while I would just keep an eye on him, and bring him in if it is a constant issue. Fresco sounds like he may be constipated. Here is a link to an article about this condition. There are some helpful hints on how to treat at home. This can be a serious problem so please, if you try some home remedies and he doesn't respond in a couple days you need to take him to your vet for an exam. Why is my cat straining with bloody diarrhea and a terrible smell?

Hello. A cat cannot be constipated & have diarrhea at the same time. I think you are seeing Tiki strain, but this is from abdominal discomfort probably due to spasms in the gut, not from being constipated. There are all sorts of reasons for the diarrhea with blood, a bacterial infection, intestinal parasites, food intolerance, & less likely because of her age - neoplasia. The first thing to do is eliminate all fish from her diet. Go with a meat or poultry based diet. This can either be a dry kibble or wet food. Start her on a probiotic designed for cats. We have Proviable by Nutrimax & FortiFlora by Purina here. Next, have a sample of her stool examined by a veterinarian for the presence of intestinal parasites & then wormed with the proper medication. If this does not help, Tiki may need additional testing to find the cause of her discomfort. I hope she is feeling better soon & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

My cat's soft stool has blood. Is megacolon a risk without constipation?

Megacolon usually occurs after chronic issues with constipation in a cat so if Bunty has had constipation issues then this is possible. Even one bout of severe constipation would be enough to cause megacolon. Bunty would need X-rays to diagnose megacolon. Frank blood like you are seeing in Bunty's stool is usually indication of an issue with the colon so something like inflammatory bowel disease could also be going on. It's important to have Bunty examined by a veterinarian to start treatment for these issues. He may need a prescription diet to manage his digestive issues.
