Can I give my cat phenobarbital left out of fridge for 12 hours?

No. Phenobarbital needs to maintain specific blood levels and the half life of the medication is 12 hours. That’s why it is dosed at that interval. You must also be careful not to over dose the medication. If you have having trouble with control of Tootsie’s seizures, I recommend to call your veterinarian. There are other medications that can be given in combination with or in substitution for phenobarbital. Follow the instructions on the label with this medication. Was this increase something that your Vet suggested? If not I would absolutely drop the dose back down to what was prescribed. Giving too much can be dangerous. Always consult your vet before changing any medication doses. If your cat gets worse you should go to an emergency vet right away.

Hello. Phenobarbital can be absorbed very quickly, so it possible that some has already entered the bloodstream. If Luna's seizures have been well controlled up to this point, then missing one dose will not be harmful. Just redose at her next normal scheduled time. Hello, thank you for your question. Without knowing the weight of your cat it is very hard to know what possible side effects are expected. Generally, phenobarbital when giving at a higher dosage than expected can lead to sedation. You may also notice that your cat is drinking/urinating more and has an increased appetite. If your cat develops any symptoms such as severe vomiting, sedation, weakness, or collapse I would recommend seeking veterinary care. Hope this helps!

It will not cause any problems even if it was a double dose for this evening. You should continue with other medications as normal.
