Can my cat take Gabapentin and Phenobarbital together for seizures?

Gabapentin and amantadine can be given simultaneously, as there are no interactions between these drugs. They work quite well together to manage cases of neuropathic pain! The prednisone will not work as well when the animal is take phenobarbital. But that's not to say that this caused the seizure. It does happen that a seizure disorder requires increases in the anti-seizure medication over time because the lower dose isn't as effective anymore. I cannot find an interaction between tresaderm ear drops and phenobarbital, so it may be an unfortunate coincidence she had a seizure after getting the drops. I think the best thing for her is to take her into a vet immediately. I hope this helps!

Yes, these two medications can be used together without any problems. I would caution you, however, that Metacam needs to be used very carefully in older cats because it isn't safe for cats with any degree of chronic kidney disease - this is extremely common in older cats, so I'm always very cautious about using it unless there has been recent blood work showing that everything is fine. If it was prescribed recently by your vet, then go ahead and use it - but if not, I would definitely recommend talking with them first to make sure they feel that it's safe for your kitty.

The phenobarbital level in her blood should be checked to make sure she gets enough of it daily. Other medicine can be tried (Potassium Bromide for example). I sure hope this input will help Stormy. Good luck.

I can't find any interactions between them, but I would give one or the other, not both at the same time. You don't want to over-sedate your cat. I'd use the gabapentin for the road trip. 12 hours isn't too long as long as long as it wasn't heated. I would still give it to her or at least give her a dose from one of the bottles and then call the compounding pharmacy tomorrow to make sure it is okay to continue using.

Gabapentin is no longer used for seizures as there are much more effective medications. max needs to be examined by the veterinarian today to be tested for different causes of seizures and then to discuss the best medication. I hope this helps and that Max responds to treatment.
