Thanks for visiting Petcoach! Since mites are not visible without the use of a microscope, I am going to assume you are seeing ticks on Tikvichko. Ticks can be prevented with only 1 preventative that I am aware of on he market right now, and hat product is called Bravecto for cats. Here is a website link with more information. https://us.bravecto.com/for-cats.aspx But to rid the ticks that are on him currently, and also to treat for his other conditions (likely an upper respiratory infection and possible tick borne disease) I highly recommend taking him in to your vet for a proper exam and possible tests to make sure he didn’t get some infection from the ticks. I would apply it once a day in the beginning and once the clinical signs start to dissipate you can then go to every 2 or 3 days. Continue use until all the bumps on the skin are gone. If you are having a flea problem then you definitely should treat the environment for fleas as well, otherwise you have a major infestation in your house. I think this product is the best. Cheyletiella or Notoedres mites could cause symptoms in people and cats but I wouldn't expect to see small red bumps. Sarcoptes causes thick crusts on the face and ears along with hair loss, and cheyletiella is often called walking dandruff because it causes skin flakes that often move along with the mites. If your cat is not on a flea preventative it still may be worth trying one - cats can be good at grooming adult fleas away before you can see them. Otherwise I'd guess that her bumps and your bumps might not be related - allergies can commonly cause small red bumps in cats. There are several medications that can be used for mites but I'm not 100% sure what is available over the counter in Australia. Topical products with imidacloprid and moxidectin should be effective against both mites and fleas. Fipronil can be effective against cheyletiella and fleas. I would recommend checking in with your vet before giving any medication for mites.

Hello, my name is Dr. Shines and I am happy to help. I agree that does look suspicious for flea dirt. It could also just be environmental debris or sometimes the skin will produce dark pigmentation from general irritation. First test it to see if this is flea dirt. Collect a few of those dark colored flakes on a clean white paper towel and apply a few drops of hydrogen peroxide. Then gently rub it around. If the towel turns reddish or rusty colored, it's flea feces (flea dirt). If it is, switch products. I recommend Revolution or Cheristan. If you must use something OTC, stick with name brand Frontline or Advantage. This could also be miliary dermatitis. Plus it means they bother him. I recommend to make an appointment to have him examined. In the mean time, prevention the licking by having Hugo wear an elizabethan collar at all times. Start Hugo on an omega fatty acid. I like one called Welactin. You might also consider changing his diet to one that is good for over-all skin health. The two brands I recommend are Royal Canin and Nutro. Note it will take about 6 weeks for the supplement/diet to fully kick in. I hope this helps and please feel free to reach out any time.

Lice are very species specific and can be found moving around on the skin and fur. Ticks attach to the skin also and appear to be as small watts. Dead ticks should be easy to remove. Most topicals that treat for ticks will also cover you for lice so you should not worry about that. If you can post a picture of the spots in the skin or what you removed it may help get your more information.

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. This looks like flea dirt. If you put "cat flea dirt" into a Google search you will see many photos that resemble this. I suggest you get her a GOOD flea prevention and treat your house and/or yard for fleas. You can bathe her if she will let you with Dawn dish soap. Use the dish soap sparingly as it is very concentrated. Be sure to rinse it off thoroughly. You should only need to bathe her once. Bathe her either 24 hour before OR after applying the topical flea medication. If you can't bathe her, don't worry too much about it. Once the medication kicks in and you treat the environment her clinical signs will resolve. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Titian! The dark thickening of the skin indicates chronic skin disease. It can be from a bacterial or yeast skin infection, demodex (non-contagious skin mite), scabies (infectious skin mite) or even ring worm. I would highly recommend having Titan seen by your Vet next week for an exam. They can do a quick cytology of the surface of the skin to check for bacteria and or yeast and also do a skin scraping to look for mites. Regardless of the cause Titan is obviously uncomfortable.
