My cat peed in her sleep for the first time. Is it normal or serious?

It is possible that he has a urinary tract infection, urinary bladder stones, or a tumor in his bladder that is causing this, though often we see urgency to urinate, pain with urination, etc. Its also possible that its a neurologic problem resulting in him not knowing that he's urinating in his sleep. Does he have any other symptoms? Ideally, take him to your vet for an exam. Your vet will probably recommend doing a urinalysis and perhaps some bloodwork. If a cause is found, the treatment is targeted for the cause. If no cause is found, your vet may recommend a prescription that helps him to tighten his urethra (Proin). However, this is a very rare problem to see in male cats; so we would not want to assume that something like that would help if there is an underlying cause. Additionally, to use a mediation like Proin inappropriately could cause a problem with preventing him from urinating when he should. Hello, thank you for your question about Izzy. Lack of awareness of urination/defecation are suggestive of nerve/muscle weakness. In some animals we can see some mild changes as they age. However, this can be a sign of a neurologic problem in her hind end. If this behavior continues or Izzy does not seem to be acting normally I would recommend having her seen by your veterinarian for examination and further diagnostic workup. Hope this helps!

That is not normal. for a cat to lie in his own eliminations, there must be a serious problem. I suggest you clean him up and take him to a vet or pet ER right away. If you cannot do this today, then at least put some cat litter underneath him so that the urine gets absorbed. Take him ASAP, please.

This is not normal at all. She may be suffering from a urinary tract infection, and/or incontinence. She is licking herself and her bed trying to clean the urine off. I suggest you take your kitty to your veterinarian for an exam and a urinalysis. If she is suffering from a UTI she will need prescription medication.

Unfortunately, if there is a medical condition / infection, there is nothing you can do over the counter. You will have to have Nookie seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would confine her to a bathroom or a small room for the time being until you can get her seen by a veterinarian. I hope this helps! Older kitties definitely have a harder time cleaning their back end usually from arthritis. Because she is leaking urine, I would be worried about a urinary tract infection or a possible stone causing issues with normal urination. I recommend a vet exam to rule out the above concerns. Poor Pigglet. Since this is new and if you haven't already, I would have your vet take a look at him. With his age, it could be a simple urinary tract infection or something more serious like diabetes or kidney disease. All of these can cause an increase in drinking and make it harder for them to hold it when they are sleeping. Your vet will be able to do an urinalysis and blood work if needed. They will be able to get him started on the best treatment plan to help him feel better. I hope this helps and he starts to feel better soon.
