Since he goes outside, he could also have an abscess/infection in his paw or he may have an injury. He should definitely be examined by a vet to determine the exact cause. He may need an antibiotic or an anti-inflammatory to treat. Your vet can also take an x-ray, if needed, to help diagnose. There isn't much you can do at home until we know the exact cause of the swelling. Hope he feels better soon.

However, this can be seen with a number of conditions even cancer being one of the possibilities. I recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. The paw swelling could be due to an injury to the paws, build up of fluid from the lymphatics systems, or an infection. Sweatpea sounds like he's pretty ill right now, and I think he should see a vet immediately. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. I’m so sorry Pebbles is so painful! The paw looks as though it has had some sort of trauma. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. She may need antibiotics, and definitely some cat safe pain medications. In the meantime placing her feet in a bowl of warm water and Epsom salts for 5-10 minutes may decrease some of the swelling and provide some comfort. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. It is definitely possible that the paw pads could be injured from excess friction such as carpet burn. This could also be from walking on a hot surface. If zombie is in pain I would have your vet examine him. He may need a course of antibiotics to prevent infection and an anti inflammatory to reduce the redness and swelling. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. There is a disease call "plasma cell pododermatitis" that affects the footpads of cats, making them swell and sometimes crack. It's poorly understood, but believed to be an autoimmune disease. Treatment usually consists of a specific antibiotic (doxycycline) which somehow regulates the immune system (again, we don't understand why) and drugs to suppress the immune system (prednisolone or cyclosporine). Sometimes we have to bandage the feet temporarily to help with the pain and to aid healing. Soldier may also need pain medication for a time until he is more comfortable. Your vet should be able to diagnose this condition and start treatment. Good luck.

Poor Malie! It definitely looks swollen. Swelling like that can be caused from several things like a local infection/abscess, a soft tissue injury, bug bite and much more. You can try some benadryl twice a day (see link below) and restrict her activity (no running, jumping, or playing) to see if it improves. If it isn't improving or worsens, I would have your vet take a look at it. Your vet will be able to help determine the cause and get her started on the proper meds to help her feel better.
