Why are my cat's paws red and swollen? Could it be carpet burn?

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 28 days old | 6 lbs

Can cats get carpet burn? My cat's paws (especially back ones) are reddish and swollen. He's not acting like they hurt, and he is still bouncing around and playing with the other cats. He is not typically on carpet, they are

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. It is definitely possible that the paw pads could be injured from excess friction such as carpet burn. This could also be from walking on a hot surface. If zombie is in pain I would have your vet examine him. He may need a course of antibiotics to prevent infection and an anti inflammatory to reduce the redness and swelling. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. However, this can be seen with a number of conditions even cancer being one of the possibilities. I recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Why are my 2-year-old cat's paws swollen, cracking, and warm?

Casplan's swollen and cracked paws are very concerning and he needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. Swollen paws can be related to a blockage in the lymphatic or venous systems, an autoimmune disease, something like a rubber bandage around the leg, low plasma protein or a significant blood pressure problem. All of these conditions need to be addressed quickly. The veterinarian will get a better idea of the cause after a physical exam. Best of luck.

My outdoor cat is limping with a dry, swollen paw. Is it a burn? What can I apply?

While a burn to his paw is possible I would also be concerned about an infection or even a bite/sting wound. Kitty Baby needs to get his paw checked out if possible as he may need antibiotics. If that is not possible I recommend he be kept indoors and you monitor the paw. Sometimes soaking the paw in a warm water or a warm compress is helpful. Do not give any human medications as they can be very toxic to cats.

The reason is that this may be a local infection site which can be painful and cause her discomfort. Another possibility is a traumatic injury which may need further care or even a tumor. My cat's paws are swollen, purple, and crusted. What should I do?

I’m so sorry Pebbles is so painful! The paw looks as though it has had some sort of trauma. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. She may need antibiotics, and definitely some cat safe pain medications. In the meantime placing her feet in a bowl of warm water and Epsom salts for 5-10 minutes may decrease some of the swelling and provide some comfort. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. My cat's paw is swollen and he's sleeping a lot. Vet or home care?

Since he goes outside, he could also have an abscess/infection in his paw or he may have an injury. He should definitely be examined by a vet to determine the exact cause. He may need an antibiotic or an anti-inflammatory to treat. Your vet can also take an x-ray, if needed, to help diagnose. There isn't much you can do at home until we know the exact cause of the swelling. Hope he feels better soon.
