Why is my cat putting paws in mouth, grinding teeth, and has red gums?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 16 lbs

My cat just put both front paws in his mouth while eating, and when I picked him up to check on him he was grinding his teeth. Inside his mouth I thought I saw little white bits between his teeth and red on his gum. He seems Ok now, but I'm a bit concerned.

It's difficult to know exactly what this is without seeing it, but I'm most suspicious about some sort of dental disease. It's not likely something serious that needs immediate attention, but it's best to have him seen by a vet sometime soon to get an accurate diagnosis of the problem. I hope that helps and all is well with Buddy.
