Why does my cat paw at food, and why is there cat poop on my couch?

You may just monitor at this point. Eevee may end up with an upset stomach from eating feces and then again, she could be fine. You could feed her a diet of boiled white meat chicken and plain boiled white rice for the next 24 hrs if she will eat it (cats can be picky). As long as the cats are worm free, you don’t have to worry about anything being transmitted. Figure out who is pooping outside the box as this can be either behavioral or medical. Most kittens will outgrow this messy phase. Adult cats tend to be very clean animals. You may try a different type of litter to see if that helps with the mess or even try something like an automatic litter box. I am sorry to hear that Stella was so sick! The posture you are describing (squatting outside the litter box) could indicate that Stella is having an issue with either peeing or pooping, or there could be a behavioral issue. As far as not eating the food goes, sometimes cats will act picky when they know that they will get something special if they hold out for a while. If they are otherwise acting fine (drinking, not vomiting or lethargic), try putting the food down for meal times, then picking up whatever is left after 15 minutes. If Mila has abnormal stool quality or if she is overweight then it could be a medical issue. Most cats are very clean and groom themselves frequently. However, not all cats are this way and it could be a behavioral thing. If she is overweight then she may not be able to reach to keep clean. There is a food company called Royal Canin that tends to make pets have good stool quality and you may try this diet. If she has a bad stool quality, take her to the vet to see if anything should be done. I hope this helps!

Is this a new behavior? Is the stool firm and hard? If it is firm and hard then it may be from her being constipated. If it is soft and she has diarrhea, she can have intestinal parasites or she could have eaten something that upset her stomach. I would recommend having a stool sample performed to make sure there are no parasites and to see the consistency of the stool. If the veterinarian says everything is fine then I would use at least 2 litter boxes with clumping litter. Make sure you have a box on each level. This probably is due to the food she eats. Some cat food has more undigestible bulk (lots more fiber) than other cat food. If you want her to poop less poop, you will need to get low residue cat food, which is usually a prescription food for cats with constipation. If you put "low residue cat food" in your browser , it will bring up many different kinds.

I have seen my cats do this as well. There are a couple of reasons why Kooner may do this. It could be that she doesn't like the litter itself, so she doesn't scratch at it to cover her feces. It could be that she doesn't like the box itself, so she wants to leave it as soon as possible. She may also never learned to cover it up when she's done. As long as she is actually going in the box, it's really a non-issue that she doesn't cover up after she is done. I would not recommend changing her box or her litter, as cats are extremely particular about this box and litter, and changing it could stop her from using the litter box completely. I would not worry about it, and leave it be.
