My cat has parasites! How do I protect myself until treatment?

All the cats in the house will need to be treated with the deworming treatment and flea treatment. If two of the cats have fleas, then the third likely has them as well and needs to be treated. Even if the third doesn't at the moment, there will be fleas in the home, and it could easily get them, so it does need protection. In addition, it is possible that your third cat also has tapeworms. I would get an additional flea treatment and deworming treatment, and give both to all of them. As for treating the house, I would wash all the bedding in hot soapy water. Vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. In terms of your twins, keep them out of any rooms where you use the spray (same for the cats) until the spray is fully dried. If you do decide to flea bomb the house, remove the cats and your twins for the entire day. At the end of the day, it should be safe to bring them back home. Yes it ia sbsolutely ok to treat her for fleas. I would use a spot on such as Advantage or frotnline Plus or similar spot ons. and you can get some Pyrantel Pamoate from your veterinarian to worm her (it is a liquid, that does not taste terrible) or a Drontal for cats tablet.

Poor kitties. YOu should be able to get both treatments from your local pet store. There are many variations to the brands available, but they should all be mostly effective. Tapeworm medication can come in the form of "Praziquantel" or some variations of this and some ear mite medications you may see are "Acarexx", "Milbemite" or some other off brand. 1 treatment should resolve the infections your kitties have. I would also recommend getting them on a flea preventative (if they are old enough) to prevent re-infection with tapeworms, since tapeworms come from flea ingestion or ingestion of poop that is infected with them. While there are different types of deworming medications available over the counter you would need to know what type of intestinal parasites your kitten has to choose the appropriate one, and that would most likely require a fecal analysis with your veterinarian. If your kitten is eating and drinking normally and seems active I would wait until your appointment. Your kitten has probably had the worms since birth! Most intestinal parasites are transmitted through stool so you should isolate the new kitten from the adult cat and give them separate litter pans.
