My cat was attacked by dogs and can't move its back legs. What to do?

Poor kitty! Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do for him at home except keep him calm, warm, and quiet. Do not give him any human medications, as many are toxic to cats and can be fatal if given. He needs veterinary attention immediately, and there is usually a vet on call after hours for emergencies. The information to reach a vet on call is usually found on the clinic's answering machine or website. If transportation is an issue, I would call a friend to drive you or a cab to take you. Some types of spinal trauma are temporary, while others are permanent. Only time will tell which is the case, but Goofy definitely needs to be evaluated by a vet. The biggest concern short-term is managing pain from the trauma and making sure that Goofy can urinate and defecate properly. If you do not see her urinate in 12 hours, this may be a medical emergency and she should be evaluated by a vet immediately.

I am worried that he may have thrown a blood clot to his back legs causing paralysis. This is known as a saddle thrombus and can be quite painful and serious. This is typically due to heart disease. If your cat cannot move his back legs, this is an emergency that needs immediate veterinary attention. Its possible that he may have thrown a blood clot to that has ruined his ability to have circulation to his back legs. Or he may have had something tramatic happen to his spine. You can keep him clean and comfortable and see if the control of his rear legs will return. He may be permanently paralyzed though. I like to support these animals, putting something underneath their stomach if needed, to get them standing with their rear legs underneath in a normal position. If he gets stronger when you have him standing he may improve. Usually they will start to move their legs in a few weeks if they are going to improve. If he remains paralyzed you can purchase or make a cart or wheelchair for him so he can walk around on his own. Yes , this is potentially life threatening and obviously very painful. you need to take Mioou to a vet right away for an exam, pain medicine and stabilising the leg. she may have internal injuries as well. Ring your vet. If he does not do out of hours, then there will be an answering service giving you a number top call for out of hours emergency service. your local PDSA may also have an emergency clinic on his premises.
