My 1-year-old cat wants outside. Can he still get outdoor vaccines?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year old

My kitty is about be 1 soon and we noticed he really wants to be outside. So i was wondering if there is a certain age where vets wont give cats the vaccines to be outside cats? Thank you.

No, there isn't an age where vets won't give cats vaccines. You can make an appointment at any time to get Midnight vaccinated. The vet can go over the vaccine schedule to get him fully immunized, and I would not let him outside until the vet says he is completely protected. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

I would recommend keeping his FVRCP and Rabies up to date. If you think you will eventually allow him outdoors with out supervision then I would recommend considering the Feline Leukemia vaccine. They can get feline leukemia from fighting with other cats. Also I recommend monthly flea and tick medications for cats that go outside. I recommend Revolution because it also prevents mosquitoes.

    I hope this helps!
