Cat has open wounds with maggots. What's the vet treatment and cost?

Costs vary widely between vet clinics. Looks like she will at the very minimum need antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications and maybe a topical one to put directly on the wound(s). Maggots are usually very clearly seen when you look at the wound, it also smells extremely bad. this looks like an abscess, i don't know if she has been seen by a vet or not, if not then you need to take her to the vet ASAP, she will need antibiotic treatment.

This wound needs immediate attention from a vet as it is fairly large. If it is treated quickly before infection sets in it may simply be a case of a few skin staples. If the wound is older the cat will likely need an anaesthetic to fix the wound properly and antibiotics. Your dad has a responsibility as a pet owner to get her appropriate treatment. You should also think about preventative treatment for ticks.

While this cannot be sutured back in place for now as it is infected and inflamed, the ultimate goal would be to treat this wound aggressively and it can improve. If you keep finding maggots there is a relatively large infestation, You should shave the hair around the wound and wash it well with disinfectant removing all the maggots. If you cannot do that you will need to take your cat to your veterinarian for a clip, clean, disinfect, and exam. Maggots can kill your cat. Neither you nor your dog will get maggots unless you have the respective blue bottle or similar flies in your house and a wound into which the flies can lay their eggs

The first step in wound treatment is to get the hair out of the way. You will need to use clippers to clip a wide area around the wound - you can't use scissors or a razor, you have to use the buzzing type of clippers. The next step is disinfection. I recommend using a first aid chlorhexidine scrub to gently rub into the wound, and wash copiously with clean water. You only need to do this once. The third step is to prevent Gio from licking the wound. Licking spreads bacteria and decreases the rate of healing. You will have to buy an e-collar or cone for her to wear since cats are very flexible and a bandage will not be able to stay in place on this area of her body. You can apply Neosporin ointment twice a day, making sure she doesn't lick it off. If you follow these steps, small wounds will often heal on their own. If the wound has already been infected, or continues to swell, oozes a creamy discharge, or he has a rectal temperature above 103 (normal is 100-102.5), Gio will need prescription antibiotics to allow the wound to heal.
