My cat was just neutered. His incision looks open. Is it serious?

I agree with you, it does look like Zara's incision is opening a bit but the rest of it looks great. I do think this is something that needs to be seen by your vet to be safe, but it does not need an emergency visit. You can wait until Monday to have her seen. If the incision opens wider, she starts bleeding from the incision, you notice the area becoming red, swollen, or warm to the touch, or you notice internal tissue coming out of the incision, then that is an emergency and I would rush her into a vet right away. I'm not sure if she has an Ecollar or not, but if she does, keep it on her to keep her from licking at the incision. If you don't have one, I can put a link below on how to make one at home. I hate to hear that this happened to Rusty. That looks like it is likely the subcutaneous tissue. Ideally that could be glued tonight with the sterile surgical glue. If you see anything coming through that looks like a tube, you need to be worried. I recommend to call the clinic and see if you can run him back in. Better to deal with things tonight rather than wait for the tissue to dry out- which still might be ok but not ideal. Best of luck with the little guy!

Not sure what that is precisely or if it's related to surgery but it definitely requires vet attention by tomorrow. Until then, either place a cone on your kitty to prevent self mutilation or use some sort of onesie. If neither are available you will need to manually continue to discourage this sort of behavior. The area may been to be closed up, and antibiotics and pain meds will likely be prescribed.

Hello. This is not normal. Traditionally, the incisions over the acrotum are left open when a cat is neutered. Some of the scrotal tissue appears to be bulging out. This is not life threatening, but may delay healing time or possibly become infected. I would suggest that you have your cat rechecked by the veterinarian that performed the surgery. This is what's known as a flank spay, and it is a place where vets will do spays on cats. One of the advantages is that you don't have the weight of the abdominal organs on the incision as it's healing. Yes, you are right this wound is wide open. She does need to see a vet asap to get this closed. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. I don't see any signs of infection, and while it appears a little bit of the incision is open (maybe the glue didn't stick correctly), it's doesn't appear deep or big enough to be concerning. Continue to monitor him.
