My cat isn't walking straight and is foaming. Should I take him to the vet?

Hello, sorry to hear about Bubba. It sounds like he may be having a viral infection or parasites in his intestines. This is likely making him very weak and dehydrated which is likely the cause of him being unable to walk normally. You should have Bubba evaluated by his veterinarian immediately as he may need medications and fluids to make him feel better. He will likely need to be tested for viral infections and be dewormed. This could even due to weakness from perhaps getting into something he should not have. For this reason, I recommend that you consider taking him to your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Oh my. These are all very serious symptoms, especially for a cat. They can indicate he could have a number of things going on including: a stroke, seizure, vestibular disease or even brain cancer. He should be seen right away by your vet for diagnotic testing (i.e. bloodwork, radiographs) if you want to pursue any possible treatment options for him. Many things could be going on such as pain, intestinal worms, fever from many sources - infection, inflammation, etc. Kittens commonly develop upper respiratory infections due to viruses but can then develop secondary bacterial infections. It's best to take him to your veterinarian right away so they can perform a physical exam including his vitals to see if he has a fever. Once they perform that, they can advise fecal tests, blood tests, or x-rays to help them determine what is causing him problems. I hope Jack gets well soon.

He should be examined by your veterinarian. Blood work including a urinalysis should be done to assess major organ function and to diagnose kidney infection or urinary tract infection. Abdominal xrays may diagnose foreign body, masses, bladder/kidney stones or bladder inflammation. Supportive care or pain management may be indicated to keep him comfortable until a diagnose is reached.

I am very sorry to hear about Baby boy. I would recommend bringing him in to a vet right away for examination. Being unable to walk is considered an emergency and can many causes, including a saddle thrombus (blood clot blocking supply to the hind legs), a neurological problem such as trauma to the spinal cord or a herniated disk in the spine, a stroke is possible but less common in animals, vestibular disease, brain lesions, electrolyte imbalances due to diabetes or kidney disease, musculoskeletal problems, and more.
