Why is my dog not putting weight on his leg with no visible injury?

You didn't mention if it was a hind leg or a front leg. There are different possibilities for injuries based on which leg is injured. She may just sprained the leg but if she is holding the leg completely up and not putting any weight on it then it could be broken and she needs to see a vet. If she is putting weight on it but just limping slightly then just watch her for a few days. If it doesn't resolve then she should see a vet.

While there may not be any clear fractures, other injuries involving soft tissue structures such as ligaments, tendons, and muscles can be equally painful. There are also injuries to nerves that can result in pretty severe pain. Lastly, dislocations can also occur (particularly in the hip) that are extremely painful. However, that should have showed up clearly on the x-ray assuming they shot all the way up to hip joint. I would continue to give him his medication as prescribed and make sure he is rested and confined. However, if matters are not any better by the time the prescribed course of meds is complete, he will need to be brought back in to the veterinarian for reassessment.

Since your puppy has still not been able to put weight on the leg I would be concerned that the leg is broken. Also, hiding away, can indicate that the dog is painful. I would recommend taking your puppy in to the vet to have X-rays performed to check the leg. Hopefully it is not broken and he will just need some pain medication to help him feel better for the next few days.

I am sorry Tikvichko is not feeling well. If he is an outdoor cat I would be concerned about an abscess/infection or fracture/break in his bone. Most cats will heal from a broken bone over time however I would call your vet for pain medication for Tikvichko. Also I would recommend a good physical exam because if an infection is present he will need antibiotics to resolve the issue. Hope he feels better soon

Poor Sophie! It is possible that she developed a soft tissue injury or fracture in your absence or developed a blood clot in one of her hind legs (saddle thrombus). Since she is unwilling to bear any weight on this leg, she is likely in quite a bit of pain and should go to the vet immediately for evaluation. She may need to have x-rays and pain medication.
