My cat won't eat and is throwing up. What to do before her vet visit?

Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you keep your appointment to have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. I do agree that an abdominal ultrasound is the next best step. Treatment would be based on findings. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Pixie! Since Pixie failed outpatient medications then I agree she needs to be seen again tomorrow. I would not feed her for 12 hours before your appointment so she has an empty stomach. She needs blood work and belly X-rays. I worry that she may have eaten something that is stuck. Other causes are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, toxin ingestion, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, food allergy/intolerance, new food/treat/table food. Time will tell with this one. Since she's eating, drinking, and not lethargic, you certainly don't need to seek emergency care tonight. If tomorrow she still seems out of sorts, or continues to vomit, I would recommend scheduling a vet appointment for exam and x-rays of her abdomen. While I would encourage you to have him seen as soon as possible, you know him best. If he seems to be resting quietly, & is not continuously vomiting, then you can wait a bit. If he is still vomiting, have him seen soon as the dehydration & loss of essential electrolytes can be quite detrimental on his body. Do not force any food or water on him, as this may make the vomiting worse. I hope he is feeling better soon. Take care.

Cats cannot go more than a few days without eating. They will start by doing a physical exam and will likely recommend lab work to see how her organs are functioning and the status of her red and white blood cells. They may also run a thyroid test to determine if it’s over-active. The vet may need to take radiographs of her abdomen to rule out a foreign object or other abnormalities. Hello. It is best not to force anything into a vomiting pet. This could just cause her to vomit more. She will not become seriously dehydrated if you are going to have her examined tomorrow. What you can try is to rub some Karo syrup on her gums, perhaps a teaspoon or two every few hours. This will help to keep her energy levels up, but is she vomits even after you do this, then it is best just to leave her be until your vet can evaluate her tomorrow. Hello, remove any food available to him and just have water available. Bring him to your veterinarian when they open in the morning and look for any potential clothing, toys, or string that he could have eaten and let your veterinarian know if you're suspicious he may have gotten into something. King will most likely require x-rays and bloodwork to check for potential causes of his vomiting. My biggest suspicious is that he could have eaten something that is now stuck in his GI tract.
