My cat's nose scab bled when wiped. Is it an abrasion or infection?

I still think that a focal infection or traumatic lesion is more likely. You can use a topical medication like Douxo 3% PS pads which you may find online. You can apply this to the affected area twice daily for 2 weeks. If this does not resolve or appears to be progressing, have Lovey evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Ouch, poor Obi! Yes I would be concerned about infection since he keeps licking it a lot. Do not put anything on it, as he will just lick it off. I would keep an eye on it and if it does appear infected, have him seen by a vet for antibiotics. You can gently clean with warm water and antiseptic soap but don't get any water in his nose. When that layer of tissue becomes exposed like that, they can be more at risk of developing infections. For this reason, it would be indicated to have Boo evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hi, and thanks for your question. This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or possibly to a rhinitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective). Poor Binx. Based on your description it sounds like he scraped his nose and the tiny piece of skin is hanging on there. An infection would have either swelling or yellowish/green moist discharge and often-times a foul odor associated with it. This does not sound like an infection. If it is just a piece of skin hanging, as I presume, then I would not bother it and let it fall off naturally. A scab should form in the next day or two, sealing the injury naturally, and then once the healing process is complete the loose skin will fall off on its own. You can also clarify that this is indeed hanging skin by sharing a photo during a private consultation request if you wish. If things look like they are not healing well or appear to be infected at any point then its best to take Binx to your local vet for proper wound management. But if this is just a superficial injury (no active bleeding), then things should heal up just fine. I hope this helps, and take care of that fur baby!

Thank you for including the picture, it is helpful. I had a situation in a patient like Bongo that I found a tooth in (likely from a fight with another cat). But an object festering could be the cause of a non-healing wound. Also there is the potential of a growth. Less likely because he is so young, but still possible. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian soon. It is small enough that they may just recommend removing it all together and sending it out for a biopsy.
