Why is my spayed cat's nipple swollen, infected, and she bites it?

She could have a infection or allergic dermatitis. You could bathe her with a medicated cat shampoo and see if that helps. Otherwise, have your vet take a look at her to determine the cause and treat the problem. She may need an antibiotic and/or anti-inflammatory to treat.

The incisions do not appear to be infected in the images supplied. Confirm all three cats have e-collars (cones) in place to prevent licking. The cones should stay on for at least 10-14 days post op. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite, odor, excessive bruising, active bleeding or discharge.

She is a cutie! This could be from an insect/spider bite that has cause a local infection/abscess which is why is has started to swell. This could potentially be a cancerous mass that has caused an inflammatory reaction as well. Since it has recently become swollen, I would strongly recommend for your vet to take a look at it. Your vet will be able to aspirate the mass or swelling if needed. They can even take X-rays if needed if they are concerned about sinus or honey involvement. They will also be able to start her on some antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory if needed. I hope this helps!

I would first like to know where she is biting herself. Does it appear she is going after her spay incision? I would definitely try and get a look at her abdomen to make sure there is no evidence of infection or inflammation at the surgical site. If she is not biting at her incision but rather at her back and tail, this very well may be an indication of a flea infestation or other insect problem. The best way to combat this is with a flea preventative medication. Several different varieties are available for cats, depending on what formulation you think works best. Her level of distress is obviously pretty high, so I would definitely look to get things care for right away. Anti inflammatory medication and fluids might benefit Munchie, but this will require a visit to the vet to obtain the prescriptions. Hope this helps.

It certainly looks like this surgery site is infected. This could be due to parasites or it could be a bacterial or fungal infection. I recommend you ask your vet to have the mass cultured to determine exactly what is causing the infection. That way he/she can ensure that the correct medication is being used to resolve the infection.

Given the red and irritated appearance of Nellie’s skin, I’m concerned that she either has a skin infection (usually from excessive licking with underlying allergies) or an allergic reaction (contact dermatitis) to something in her environment. The white plaques appear to be skin crusts, which can occur with either of these situations. At this point, your best bet is to take Nellie to her vet for evaluation. She may need a course of antibiotics or topical medications to get this issue under control. Poor Jady! Wounds like that are often caused by a cat bite or some sort of other injury getting infected then breaking out. I can see it's amongst the unclipoed fur so nothing to do with the spay wound. You should keep it clean with salt water and get her to the vet asap for an assessment. At the least she will need an antibiotic.
