My cat's nipple is sticking out. Is it a lump? Should I see a vet?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 14 lbs

Hi. I have a cat that's about 10 years old. A while back when I was petting his belly I noticed something and when I moved his fur out of the way, I saw one of his nipples looked strange. The rest of them are flat and this one stick out. I was hoping you could tell me if it's something I should be concerned about and if I should take him back to his Vet to have it looked or if it's nothing. The last time we were there, I believe he had bloodwork and an X-ray which was fine.

Hi there,

I would have your vet check Milo. It's nothing urgent, but it could be a small mass that is growing around the nipple and it may need to be removed.

Your vet can test the area first and tell you what the next best step is.

I see what you mean about Pepper's nipple, it is a big redder around the base and more enlarged than the nipple in the third picture. What I am a bit worried about is the small lump, and due to that, yes I think it should be checked out by a vet to be safe. I don't think it's a serious issue, but I cannot say that for sure without seeing her, so having it checked out by a vet is best. Give her vet a call now to make her an appointment. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This mass looks pretty serious. Any type of color change, especially dark like this one, makes us suspicious of cancer. I suggest you take her to your vet for an exam. Likely this mass will need to be surgically removed and sent to a laboratory for histopathology testing. My cat has an oozing spot near her nipple. What could this be?

Hi. It appears to be a mass that is oozing near that nipple area. This could be an infection or an actual mass. We get concerned with older female pets who have masses on the mammary glands. They can get benign masses, but they can get cancer as well. I'd get her right away to have it checked and sampled asap

Cats, that have not been spayed, are very prone to developing mammary tumors. The majority of these tumors are unfortunately cancerous. My senior cat has small skin tag-like lumps. Should I see a vet?

Hi there, Emmie could just have a benign skin tag, but any lump should be checked with fine needle aspirate (small poke into the bump to collect cells which then get checked on microscope). My old cat has a purple lump near her nipple. Is it mammary cancer?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Tashi! If the mass is associated with a nipple it is likely a mass in the mammary gland. Sadly about 85% of masses in cat mammary glands tend to be cancerous. I highly recommend a vet visit so they can examine Tashi. You the can discuss removing the mass for biopsy. Why is my 5-year-old male cat's nipple enlarged, white, and hard?

In your picture this looks like a fairly normal nipple, although it does seem a bit large. It's possible that this nipple is inflamed, or that there is a growth or tumor associated with it. I'd recommend having your vet examine the nipple in person to help determine what might be going on.
