My cat just got neutered. Is bruising around his scrotum normal?

Hi, I have seen bruising like this myself in several cases and in itself is not a cause of concern as long as Ollie is eating, drinking, and seems comfortable. You could apply a cream on the bruised area, such as Arnicare twice a day (Arnica cream), skipping the area where the stitches are and obviously keep an eye on him. If he should be quiet, uncomfortable, not eating, I would recommend to have him checked over, if not just keep him home and monitor him. The picture is difficult to make out, but it almost looks like a piece of body tissue hanging out. Was he recently neutered? If so I would recommend having a follow up appointment with your veterinarian to see if there is any infection or problem at the neuter site. Good luck and I hope he is back to normal soon.

Hello. This is not normal. Traditionally, the incisions over the acrotum are left open when a cat is neutered. Some of the scrotal tissue appears to be bulging out. This is not life threatening, but may delay healing time or possibly become infected. I would suggest that you have your cat rechecked by the veterinarian that performed the surgery. This is probably due to some bleeding under the skin, which is not uncommon after a spay, if she is not showing any symptoms other than that i wouldn't be too worried about it, you should take her to the vet for a routine post opp check early next week though.

He may have a bleeding disorder and the scrotum may be full of blood again. It may also be infected or inflamed. Do not let your cat lick the scrotum as it irritates it and may introduce infection. If the swelling is cool, you can just observe it and over time it should shrink again and the body will have reabsorbed the blood. If the swelling is hot or painful or red, then you will need to take your cat back to the vet for a recheck.

Hi there. It's very common to see some scrotal bruising after a neuter surgery, especially in an adult dog that's fairly active. So as long as the dog is acting normal and not having any bleeding or discharge from the surgery site, this doesn't normally concern me. I would suggest restricting his exercise as much as possible for the next 7-10 days, and using an e-collar (plastic cone) to make sure that Milo isn't licking or chewing at the area. You can also hold a warm (not hot!) washcloth on the bruised area for 5 minutes a couple of times a day, if he will tolerate this, to help the bruising resolve more quickly. If the swelling seems to be getting worse instead of better, or if there is any bleeding or drainage, or if Milo starts to act like he doesn't feel well (not eating, excessively painful or lethargic, etc.), then I would recommend taking him back to the vet for a recheck visit.

It's a little irritated/inflamed but nothing out of the ordinary, especially if Smokey has been neutered in the past few days. just keep an eye on it, i would think it should look much better within a few days from now, if it doesn't -take him back to your vet to get it checked.
