I would just make sure you fast him for the procedure. Pick up any food after 10pm on Friday night. Male cats do typically well and they usually do fine. Just monitor for licking the area and any swelling or discharge but again they typically do very well. If he does lick at the area after the procedure I would just call your veterinarian. Hello! Talk to your veterinarian about what time she will need to stop eating the day prior to anesthesia. She may need an earlier dinner the night before her dental cleaning. It is just a matter of being careful with the amount of time that he is under anesthesia and keeping it to a minimum and to watch that his blood pressure does not drop in the process. A castration is so quick that I would not be too concerned about this. I would recommend IV fluids all throughout the procedure. Best of luck!

Great question, The only way to ensure the safety of performing a routine spay operation is to have your small animal veterinarian perform a pre-surgical exam along with pre-anesthetic blood testing. After the exam and blood, if anything looks abnormal, further testing such as X-rays and ultrasound can be done prior to surgery. Keep in mind, veterinary clinics vary as to their equipment, so, to insure your pets safety, its alway good to have your cat monitored on an EKG/Blood pressure monitor. Nutrition is important, feeding a good quality adult diet either recommended by your local veterinarian or purchased through Petco or feed store should be adequate. The important things is that it agrees with your cat over time such as providing normal stools and volume, maintains nice haricot, and maintains normal weight. Depends on the anesthetic used, it can take up to 72 hours for a pet to completely recover. Most pets will recover within 24 hours. The e-collar (cone) is necessary to prevent licking of the incision. Don't worry though, Chandler will acclimate. You may be able to remove it for short periods to allow him to eat or drink, but you must watch him carefully to prevent licking. The injection should cover the worst of the post operative discomfort. If not, you can request more from your veterinarian. Monitor for lethargy, decreased appetite, meowing excessively, drooling or panting. These may indicate discomfort.

Hello, the deworming medication is safe to give prior to surgery as it does not directly interact with the common anesthetics. However, the deworming medication may cause diarrhea and an upset stomach. This can add stress at the time of surgery and perhaps cause a poor appetite post surgery. If you'd like to be completely safe, you can separate the both, however, your kitten should be fine to have both procedures done so close to one another. Hope this helps and best of luck.

A trained vet doctor performing a cat neuter is very safe. Cats are actually much safer than dogs to neuter. In order to make sure Vanilla doesn't feel the surgery, he will be given anesthesia.
