Moving: Should my cat come with me or stay with the other cats?

I think you should definitely take the cat who is very bonded to you with you to uni. I don't think he would do well without you around if he's very attached to you. The outgoing one will likely do ok without you, and he can adjust to not having the other cat there. The other option is to take them both! I hope this helps.

Some cats do like company and others do just fine as the only cat. They are all different just like humans. When you move, make sure Tim gets lots of attention and play time. Provide him with climbing opportunities like a tall cat tree or shelves. There will be an adjustment period that may last a few weeks as Tim gets use to his new living situation. If he seems lonely beyond this, then maybe look at getting him another playmate. It’s ok to see how he adjusts and many of them do just fine. Even though your cat seems to like the ones she lives with doesn't mean she will like a new cat. Cats are territorial and like their own personal space. I would first allow your cat to get used to your new house with your boyfriend. See how is goes over several months. She will be stressed for a while just because of the move. Then see how she is once she is settled. If you want to get another cat for company consider it in a few months. Good luck!

Cocoa can adjust to a new home. I moved across the world from the US to New Zealand, and brought my two cats with me. That's a huge move, and they adjusted fine. Definitely take him back when you get your own place.

This is a great question! First off, thank you for your military service, it is very much appreciated. I know how hard it is to move around and not be able to take your pets with you. With Finn, it is absolutely fine to have someone look after him for a year, then take him back when you return home. I know this from personal experience. When I moved to New Zealand almost a decade ago from the US, I couldn't take my cats (or dogs) with me just yet, and they had to stay with family for about eight months before they could be shipped out. They were fine with staying with my family and then being shipped out to me in New Zealand. Yes moving is stressful, but cats can adapt, and there's no reason why you should give up Finn when you love him so much. Cats are amazing pets, and they are resilient, so I recommend having him stay with someone for a year and getting him when you come home. It gives you another great reason to look forward to coming home :-)

Cats tend to be quite adaptable and able to adjust to a new environment well, so I think Blueberry and her kitten will probably do just fine! Of course, every cat is different - some cats love the extra stimulation and socialization that comes with having other cats in the household, while other cats prefer to live on their own and are stressed by having other animals around. You know Blueberry best and might be the best judge as far as how she'll do. If you're worried about how she'll respond, you could always consider this a "trial run", and let your friend know that if your cats don't seem to be adjusting well, you could take them back to find better arrangements. You should anticipate that the first week or two will be an adjustment period and your cats might do a bit more hiding than usual, and initial encounters with the other household cats will probably include some hissing as they figure each other out - but within a few weeks Blueberry and her kitten should be looking more relaxed and comfortable in their new surroundings.
