Do cats miss their owners when gone? How long do they remember?

Yes, I have seen this happen a few times, though usually with time the cat will learn to love and trust the original owner again and have an equally strong bond. No, you don't have to worry about Bibi Noor or your other cat forgetting you. They have good memories! You can leave a shirt or two that you wore in their favorite sleeping area, so that it has your scent. Don't worry though, they will be happy to see you (but be warned, they won't greet you like a dog would). I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

I am so very sorry that you lost your husband. Yes, cats do morn, just like people. Your cat may be looking for your husband for weeks, and will miss him, especially if it was your husband's cat. The only thing you can do is give it extra TLC. Over time the mourning will get less. Sounds weird, but you two have each other and snuggling will help you a bit and your cat as well. Again, I am very sorry for your loss.

A three month vacation sounds lovely! Caboodle won't forget you. When I moved to New Zealand years ago, I couldn't take my cats and dogs with me right away, and they had to come a few months later. They stayed with family, and they did not forget me. I'd bring Caboodle over to your friend's house for visits before you go so he gets used to the new environment. I hope this helps!

Hello. Dogs have excellent memories, for the good & the bad, but they also have a tremendous ability to forgive & move on. But their memories do work differently than ours for some things. It's very kind of you to want to take in your mom's cat! It's hard to say whether she and Tipsy would remember each other or not - cats can be very sensitive about this, and often have more trouble being reintroduced to a previous companion than dogs do. I would recommend making up a separate room for your mom's cat so that she will have her own separate area to stay in at first - make sure that she has her own food and water bowl, litter box, and cat tree or scratching post. Keep her in this room with the door closed for at least a week or two, so that Tipsy can get used to hearing her and smelling her again. At that point, you can try leaving the door open for short periods of time so that the new cat can venture out into the house. A gradual introduction like this offers the best chance for success, so don't rush things! A Feliway Multi-Cat pheromone diffuser may also be helpful for this situation.

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach. I am sorry to hear that Angel has gone missing. Cats, as well as other animals, do not realize what death is. So when they are very sick and it is close to their time to pass, they feel sick and vulnerable. I believe that this is why cats and dogs will choose to be alone when they pass away. Many cats prefer to be in a dark and quiet place when they are not feeling well. I know this will not help bring Angel back but I hope this helps provide you with the information you are seeking. It is not that Angel does not love you, she was just feeling very sick and wanted to be alone. Please understand that when animals do this, it is not out of selfishness, it is because they do not feel well and want to be in peace.
