My cat meows while eating his food. Is he experiencing pain?

I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. If not, does he pant or breathe with his mouth open? This can be a sign of respiratory distress in a cat. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian for an examination. He could possibly be painful. Based on these results, blood work may be recommended as well. A thyroid disorder can cause a cat to meow more frequently. I hope this information helps!

It could simply be that swallowing the dry food is a little rougher on her throat and she is tender and thus not meowing as forcefully. Potentially she could have something going on that is causing the signs such as an infection or mass in the throat, however I doubt it is anything too serious. It would be best to have her examined by a vet to ensure there is nothing further going on.

Melvin could be suffering with a sore throat. It might be secondary to a virus. I would recommend a vet check up and in the meantime to offer moist food. Fish flavours are often popular amongst cat, slightly warmed up would be even better for him. If declining normal cat food, he might be interested in some tuna in water, no salt/oil.

Poor Fluffy! There could be a medical reason behind why he isn't eating his food and getting sick, such as dental problems, systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. He needs to see a vet to diagnose what is causing his symptoms so he can be treated. I would take him into a vet asap.

If your cat is otherwise acting normal and eating fine I wouldn’t worry too much about this. Keep an eye on your cat and watch for drooling any swelling or soreness in the mouth or any reluctance to eat. If you notice any of the signs then you may want to have her checked out.
