Why does my cat have a lump, bald spot, and wounds after mite removal?

This lump is likely a local inflammatory response that is sort of like an allergic reaciton. As long as it doesn't spread, becomes painful or causes a fever then I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Apply topical Neosporin if you wish twice a day until healed. Ticks take more than 48 hrs of attachment or transmit disease.

YEs this is quite likely a tick bite reaction and there may be part of the tick still there causing irritation. Bathing with warm saline soaked cotton wool will help to keep the area clean if she allows you, monitor closely for increasing redness, pain, lameness or fever which may indicate a widespread infection which would require additional treatment. I recommend using a tick prevention such as bravecto every 3months to prevent further incidents

Hi ! Yes it is normal for a lump to be still there as the tick causes quite a bit of local inflammation. It is normal for a lump also to remain from now onwards, it is a normal reaction of the body. It would be important to know if the head of the tick has been removed or if it has been left under the skin. If left, it will contribute to inflammation and further treatment might be required. As this is the second time Joshie gets a tick this year I would recommend to use a product that prevents Joshie from getting ticks, I have used Seresto collars quite successfully for example. Hi Emily! Secretions from the tick's feeding parts can cause skin reactions, such as raised areas, lumps and growths called granulomas. I would keep an eye on this area, and if it doesn't go away in a few days, have Jensen seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

It looks like the tick came out in one piece. When a tick bites, the saliva can cause a localized reaction leading to a firm granuloma. This should resolve on it's own over the next few weeks. In the meantime, consider an oral or topical preventative.

If it continues to look superficial (as it looks on the picture), you can consider applying a thin film of triple antibiotic on it in case it is just a mild infection. I would definitely take him to the vet to have this checked. From what you say I wonder if this is a tissue reaction to a little piece of the bug left behind. It looks more like reaction and infection than a tumour, but that is always a possibility. I wouldn't let that put you off, head to the vet and see what they think.
