My cat has a lump after a fight and antibiotics. Is it an abscess?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 5 years and 1 month old | 13 lbs

My cat was in a fight last week and showed signs of an infection. She went to her vet and had some antibiotics, but almost a week later she has improved but still seems sick. I just noticed a fairly large lump on her chest area. Could this be an abscess? Should I be considered or will this go away? Does she possibly need more antibiotics?

Hi. Yes, this could be an access. I can't say that for sure, but if the bacteria are resistant to the medications prescribed, an abscess can still form. I recommend getting her rechecked so you can find out what that lump is.
