My cat has loose stools, sensitive stomach, and a sore bottom. Help!

Metamucil may help some but I would keep her dose very small like around 1 teaspoon twice a day. You could also try to just add a small amount of canned plain pumpkin instead of the Metamucil. I would also consider trying to add in a probiotic and a sensitive stomach diet. I like a few different types of probiotics - propectalin, vetriscience probiotic chews, purina pro plan fortiflora or proviable. If you decide to switch her food, I would transition her from the old food to the new food very slowly over a 2 weeks period. If you haven't had her examined by a vet I would strongly recommend to have her looked at. There are a lot of things that can also cause loose stools like parasites, food sensitivities, inflammatory bowel disease, bacterial infections, giardia, and much more. Your vet will start with checking a fecal sample. I hope this helps!

I can't say that it's safe to give her, and you have to be very careful giving human medications to young kittens, as you can accidentally do great harm. In addition, it may not be the right treatment for her diarrhea. For example, diarrhea in kittens can be caused by intestinal worms, which Metamucil will do nothing to help with treatment. You need to take her into a vet as soon as possible, as persistent diarrhea is dehydrating. The vet can diagnose what is causing her diarrhea and can treat her for it. Best of luck.

If Simba is having no other symptoms other than soft stool you may want to consider adding fiber to his diet. There are some commercial diets that have increased fiber content (senior diets are typically higher in fiber). Another option would be to simply add a tablespoon of fiber powder (like Metamucil) to his food once a day. If this does not help then you may want to consider bringing a stool sample to your vet to be checked to ensure nothing else is going on. I hope this helps. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Minu evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may choose to check for parasites and to start medications for diarrhea depending on the results. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Galaxy! I recommend cisapride, lactulose and Royal canine fiber response for constipated cats. Sometimes with the prescription diet it eliminates the need for most medications. If she isn't eating I would have her seen today and deobstipated (sedate and remove all feces) before the weekend. Then get the cisaride and food started. Sometimes refractory cases need partial removal of their colons. I wish you the best!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding PJ. You can consider a diet change. If she is a high anxiety kitty, I like Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Calm. It is an anti-anxiety food. You could also add a probiotic such as Fortiflora or Proviable to help with her digestive health. If all of these changes do not help, then I would recommend further testing. There is a parasite known as Tritrichomonas in cats that will cause soft stool. She may also require a blood panel specific to GI disorders. It measures two pancreatic values as well as cobalamin and folate levels. I hope this information helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would recommend getting Tiga on a prescription kidney diet like Hill's k/d. I would add some non-flavored powder metamusil to the food daily (1/4 tsp to start). The prescription diets have proven to extend the life span of cats with kidney disease. If adding metamusil doesn't help I would ask your Vet about prescribing lactulose to help with the stools. Good luck!
