My cat's littermate died from seizures. Should I worry about my cat?

With seizures starting at that age an a change in behavior ibwiukd bravery concerned there is a disease affecting the brain that is causing the problems. If that is the case you are unlikely to notice any improvement and likely see things get worse and the seizures progress. There is medication you can try to stop the seizures.

I do not think it's related to killing those mice, Epilepsy in cats is not very common either, you will have to monitor her, if it happens again in the next couple weeks, you will need to take her to the vet in order to get it checked (full blood test).

I’m so sorry for your losses. The only way to determine what the babies have died from would be to have a necropsy or postmortem exam done. I understand with foster pets this might not be financially feasible, but it may give answers and potentially help the remaining kittens. If all from the same litter they could have a congenital Disorder causing the seizures and death, or they may have been exposed to a virus while in utero or shortly after birth. Some toxins, exposure to flea control products, or medications can cause seizure and death. Diagnostic testing can be difficult with kittens this little but it may be worth discussing running a Health screen or viral panel on the remaining kittens to assess their health. Otherwise, the best thing to do is make sure they are on a good plane of nutrition, use only Anti-parasite products recommended by your veterinarian, and vaccinate as they get old enough. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Seizures can occur due to many reasons that go from a toxicity, metabolic diseases, inflammatory diseases and even tumors. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. Diagnostics that will be recommended will include bloodwork and advanced imaging such as an MRI. I would recommend taking Monkey in to the vet. Toxins can cause seizures and while epilepsy can occasionally be seen in cats it's not common. He should be evaluated to see what caused the seizure.

It sounds like you are describing cerebellar hypoplasia. You can find videos on YouTube to see if it looks similar. Now, if the mom died and had neurological symptoms as well, you need to be concerned about the possibility of rabies. Remember, rabies is a FATAL disease so if I would strongly suggest you take the kitten to a vet for an exam and discuss with them the situation with the mother so the appropriate steps can be taken.

It is a little unusual for seizures to happen during a sleep cycle, but if she seems disoriented after waking up this is probably what is happening. In a cat Cassie's age I would worry that the seizures are due to a primary brain disease and not something more benign like epilepsy. Kidney disease, liver disease, or hypoglycemia can also cause seizures but it would be less likely for Cassie to act like her normal self in between seizure episodes. Infections, some inflammatory diseases or cancer would be most common. Regardless of the cause of the seizures anti-epileptic drugs can sometimes help control the frequency and severity of the seizures, but if the underlying disease is not treated at some point the seizures will progress. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian to discuss testing and treatment options.
