My cat is limping. Can I give him Onsior or Bufferin for pain relief?

Poor Sagan! I'm glad to hear that he's bearing weight on his right front leg. Since he's a young and presumably active cat, limping occurs most commonly from injuries. As you'd mentioned, it's possible that he has a soft tissue injury of the muscles, tendons or ligaments, or a fracture. Unfortunately, there are no safe over the counter pain medications for cats, as all cause serious toxic side effects. It would be ideal for Sagan to go to his vet for an exam. The vet may recommend x-rays right away, or may offer a trial of prescription pain medications and rest. If you aren't able to take him to a vet right away, then be sure to restrict his activity to a dog crate or small room where he is unable to run, jump or play for a few days. (Easier said than done, I realize.) If this is a mild soft tissue injury, he may just need some time to rest and heal. If the limping continues or worsens, then he will certainly need veterinary attention. I hope this helps and that Sagan is on the mend soon!

It is very likely that he feels the weather in his bones and cats do suffer from arthritis. If the Onsior was prescribed for him by your vet, you can give it to him. If not, I would definitely wait until tomorrow and call your vet and ask whether you can give it to him. We are not allowed by law to authorize or prescribe medication.

Clopidogrel and Onsior are safe to give at the same time, as long as they are medications that are both prescribed by your veterinarian to be used by Jack. Onsior is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication that should not be used if cats have underlying liver or kidney disease, as Onsior can make these diseases worse. If the Onsior has been prescribed by your veterinarian for Jack (and not a different cat in the house) it is OK to give him this along with the Clopidogrel he usually receives. If the Onsior has been prescribed for a different cat in the household, I would not give this to Jack without Jack first being evaluated by your veterinarian. I hope this is helpful!

If the Onsior isn't expired and is the appropriate dosing for his current weight then you can give him a tablet. Do not give it if he isn't eating or is vomiting. Do not give extra and follow the specific instructions, once daily for no more than 3 days. Call your Vet Monday before giving anymore. Good luck!

Hi there. Sorry this happened. You CANNOT give a cat any over the counter pain medication like aspirin, ibuprofen, etc. Please don't do this. Cats are extremely sensitive to these medications and you can cause her severe damage (even death) if you give her any of these medications. I know you want to help her but she will need medication from a vet. Vets have medications that are specific for cats that work amazingly well. So, my recommendation is to get her to a vet for an exam and they can prescribe some pain medications for her. You could always catch her and the kittens and take them to your local shelter. I am so sorry Mazzy isn't feeling well. There is nothing over the counter that you can give her- she is too small and nothing is safe for cats. There is also limited medications in veterinary medicine for cats. I would recommend keeping her confined with her litter box and food in a small crate or bathroom, so she doesn't re-injure herself. She does need to see a vet to rule out a fracture or dislocation. They will be able to prescribe something safe for pain for her. Good luck and kisses to Mazzy!

Fortunately Onsior is one of the safest pain killers on the market and a one time double dosage is not likely to affect him. i would still monitor him for vomiting, lack of appetite and bloody stools, i would also recommend skipping the next dose.
