Why is my cat limping, meowing in pain, and has a swollen belly?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 years and 4 months old

Hello, I am currently taking care of 3 cats. One of them (female) started walking strangely yesterday evening. They are out at night and can choose rather to be inside or outside during the day. As I said she started walking strange and has also been limping her backfoot. I checked it and there was no visible injurie, she is normally a cuddly cat but when I tried picking her up she started to meow extremely. I feel like she has a really upblown belly as well. Thank you for your help!

Antique needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. Weakness is never normal and can indicate many things including toxin ingestion, drug exposure, an infection in the brain, brain cancer, low blood sugar and other sinister reasons. A physical exam and bloodwork is needed to begin figuring out the cause and the best treatment. Other diagnostics may also be indicated. The loud meowing also indicates she is either in pain or in distress. Since she cannot tell you what happened or how she feels, she needs help to figure out what is wrong and to get better. I hope it's nothing too serious and that he gets back to normal quickly.
