My 4-month-old kitten is weak, limping, and not eating. What to do?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your kittens. I would recommend that they see their veterinarian as there is a viral infection that is easily spread between kittens. It can cause a fever, limping, oral ulcers as well as upper respiratory signs such as sneezing. It is known as the calicivirus. They may require medication. In the meantime, keep them comfortable, help them move when necessary and encourage them to eat and drink. I hope this information helps!

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Loki is a very cute little guy! It sounds like Loki has a few different things going on. A limp tail could be due to a 'tail-pull' injury from the past, or could be due to a previous fracture or different injury. If he is not able to move it at all, you can consider having it amputated. If he is able to move it, and is walking around OK with it, and it doesn't seem painful (he doesn't crying out when you touch it, or touch near the base of the tail, where it attaches to his body), then he might be ok with it just as it is. If it seems painful or bothering him, it likely will need to be removed. Not eating well and being uncomfortable could be due to a problem in his stomach. The most likely cause would be intestinal worms. You can try getting him a dewormer from the pet store. Meowing a lot could be a sign of pain, or could be a playful kitten. If he is curled up and looks sore and is crying, then he is likely in pain, but if he is running around and exploring and playing, then he is likely just a vocal kitten. It sounds like he should be seen by a vet, so I would try to get some money saved up, or call your local vet to see if there are any low-cost clinics going on soon to have him vaccinated and possibly neutered and checked out. Your kitten needs to be seen by a veterinarian. This sounds like a chronic infection which needs to be addressed. Matted fur is a sign of the cat not grooming itself and not playing is also a sign of not being well. This is not going to go away by itself. Please take your kitten to a vet tomorrow morning.

Hello. Your kitten is showing signs of illness. If he defecated on himself and if limp he could be injured but more likely he's hypoglycemic. Young kittens need to eat every hour or so to keep up with their energy demands. I would recommend having him seen by a vet asap. He need veterinary examination and treatment. If you can get him to eat some kitten milk replacer while you get an appointment set up, that would be good. If he won't eat that try rubbing some honey on his gums to raise his blood sugar. As your cat hasn't been eating and is limping it is best to schedule a veterinary appointment ASAP. The limp could be caused by a number of things including injury to the leg, such as a break or sprain, wound or infection from a bite or scratch, or muscle or nerve damage. If the limb is hurt severely enough or if infection is present it may make your cat not want to eat. Until you can get to the vet, limit all activity to prevent further injury to the limb, and try to entice eating by warming up some wet food or adding some warmed boiled chicken to your cat's food. However it is necessary to schedule a vet appointment ASAP.

Poor Simba sounds very weak and it does sound like she is ill and in pain. She could have been injured, she could be suffering from a systemic illness, or she could have an infection. Her symptoms are very general, so it's hard for me to narrow down more what could be going on with her without seeing her in person. Given her age and the fact that she is has been like this all night and day, taking her into the vet now would be the best option. The vet can diagnose what is causing her to behavior like this, and can treat accordingly.

Since Coco got her vaccinations a week ago they are probably not the cause of her symptoms. I would be concerned about an injury or wound in the front paw that she is favoring. Oftentimes when a cat is ill or injured, or just not feeling well in general, they will stop eating and become lethargic. If this behavior continues for more than 24 hours then I would recommend taking her in to your vet to be checked out.
