My cat's leg hurts, she's limping and licking it. What's wrong?

If it just started you can let her rest for a few days with minimal walking and minimal physical exercise, if it does not improve within 3-4 days you will have to take her to the vet in order to get it checked and treated, she might need pain killers for a few days. if the vet think it's something more serious such as a fracture, joint injury or foreign body, he might recommend to have an xray done as well.

You didn't mention if it was a hind leg or a front leg. There are different possibilities for injuries based on which leg is injured. She may just sprained the leg but if she is holding the leg completely up and not putting any weight on it then it could be broken and she needs to see a vet. If she is putting weight on it but just limping slightly then just watch her for a few days. If it doesn't resolve then she should see a vet.

That area looks pretty irritated, and abscesses (infections under the skin) are very common in cats due to the bacteria in their saliva. Julie needs to be examined by the veterinarian. Not using the leg could be due to something like a fracture, a ruptured tendon or an infection. She will need a physical exam and maybe an x-ray. Until you get her in, keep her indoors and strictly limit her activity. You may keep her shut in a large dog kennel or a small bathroom. You really don't want her jumping or running.
