My outdoor cat came home limping on three legs. What's wrong?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 7 days old | 4.85 lbs

My cat of 6 months. She is an outdoor cat . Yesterday she went outside and came today morning. This is normal for her as she goes sometimes. So today she came and was walking only on 3 legs. Her hind or back leg doesn't have any scratches or anything. I checked and she is letting me touch her paw and bone but she growls a bit when i touch her thigh and i think it is where she is hurting. She was able to jump in 3 legs. She ate meal and now sleeping. Please help..༎ຶ‿༎ຶ

Julie needs to be examined by the veterinarian. Not using the leg could be due to something like a fracture, a ruptured tendon or an infection. She will need a physical exam and maybe an x-ray. Until you get her in, keep her indoors and strictly limit her activity. You may keep her shut in a large dog kennel or a small bathroom. You really don't want her jumping or running. You didn't mention if it was a hind leg or a front leg. There are different possibilities for injuries based on which leg is injured. She may just sprained the leg but if she is holding the leg completely up and not putting any weight on it then it could be broken and she needs to see a vet. If she is putting weight on it but just limping slightly then just watch her for a few days. If it doesn't resolve then she should see a vet.

Poor Sophie! It is possible that she developed a soft tissue injury or fracture in your absence or developed a blood clot in one of her hind legs (saddle thrombus). Since she is unwilling to bear any weight on this leg, she is likely in quite a bit of pain and should go to the vet immediately for evaluation. She may need to have x-rays and pain medication. Muscle wastage and weakness in her back legs is serious as well. I would take her into a vet immediately. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, a urinalysis, and a lameness exam to determine what is causing her symptoms, and how to treat them. She could have gotten hit by a car while missing, or attacked by another animal. Please take her into the vet now.

My cat is limping suddenly, not putting weight, but can still jump?

Since it has only been going on a few hours and she does put some weight on it when jumping I think you could monitor her today. I would try to keep her indoors and confined to small room so she stays quiet and rests the leg as much as possible. If swelling starts, she starts acting lethargic, or the limping doesn't resolve in the next 24 hours I would have her evaluated by a veterinarian so they can assess her for wounds or more serious injuries. Hope she feels better asap !

Outdoor cat limping on back leg: Can it heal on its own or is it broken?

Ploffie is quite handsome. This could potentially heal on its own if it is a minor soft tissue injury or a minor fracture, but he needs to be confined and not allowed to roam or jump. My concern is that if it is secondary to an abscess or some type of infection or a large displaced fracture then it may not heal. If he isn't improving, I would try to figure a way to catch him and take him to your vet. Your vet will be able to determine the cause and get him started on the proper meds. I hope this helps!
