My cat has a growing wound on her leg she keeps licking. What to do?

Hello. I would not try to dress the wound yourself. Some products can be very dangerous to cats, and due to excessive grooming they often eat products. I would recommend firstly to get an e-collar to prevent her from licking. Cats licking at a wound would prevent and delay healing. Also, if it has been 2 months and not healing, then I would be worried about infection, especially if she has been licking as cat's mouths contain very nasty bacteria. I would suggest having it seen by a vet. You can try the e-collar first for a couple days if Luda isn't bothered by the wound, and if it is healing you can leave the e-collar on for 10 days to allow it to heal completely. If it isn't healing then have it seen by a vet. Don't apply any bandages or products to it, you are risking causing much more harm, and not helping at all.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). It may heal on its own, even though it will take few days. Disinfection may be done at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths twice daily. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. If the wound will not heal/or at least improve in 5 days, a check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. There could be a foreign body lodged in the wound and the pus is the body's way to try to get rid of it. This should be see by a vet and probably needs to be cleaned out surgically, ie all the necrotic tissue needs to be removed and with it hopefully the foreign body. Then it can heal properly and should not reoccur.

Ok. I'm not 100% sure I know what you are asking so I hope I can help you. 1. This looks like a wound as you stated. There is no way for me to tell you how it happened. 2. I do not see any worm(s) coming out but that is actually not unheard of. I don't know if you have cuterebra in your country but we get them in the US. It does not, however, look like a cuterebra infection. 3. I think the Soframycin you were using was fine. I cannot read the name of the spray that was recommended to you so I can't really comment on it. If your vet recommended the spray then you are better off using that. 4. If your cat wants to lick you need to stop him by using a "cone" collar. If he continues to lick it, it will not heal no matter what use on it. These look like bite wound abscesses that have blown out. More than likely Bella got in a fight with another cat. The wounds festered & abscessed out. You can clean them with a little peroxide, but she really needs to be on antibiotics. We do not always close these wounds with sutures, because they are usually pretty contaminated, but if severe enough, they may need to be. You can try placing an Elizabethean collar on her ( Cone of shame ) to keep her from licking the wounds. She is doing her best to help her wounds, but her sand paper tongue does not help with healing. You can find the collars at your nearest Petco. Poor Smudge. I would recommend taking smudge to a vet to have the wound checked out. IFs he is an outside cat I would be concerned about an abscess. Sometimes if cats have an abscess they will be very painful until it ruptures but than you will see the infection/smell. IF she does have an abscess she will need some antibiotics to help resolve the issue. Other possibilities are skin mites, parasites or fungal issues. A vet visit would be best. Hello I can't tell from the picture how deep that wound is but it does look infected and there's underlying tissue and possibly muscle exposed. I recommend takinh your cat to see a veterinarian as she could be licking at the site when you're not watching and causing further infection. It may need to be closed or the vet may decide it should stay open (with some infected wounds closing can cause an abscess to form) and put her on antibiotics and pain medication. She might also need an E collar to prevent her from licking the area further.
