My cat licked "stay away" spray I used. Is it dangerous for him?

I don't see any warnings on the product about it being a problem if the animal ingests it when licking it, but to keep her from licking it off, I would keep an Ecollar on Missy while you are using this spray. It contains menthol, which should be harmless, but it also contains salicylates, which are essentially the same as aspirin. This is potentially harmful to a cat, especially their GI tract and kidneys. Unfortunately I don't have any information about dosage - how much is definitely dangerous. I would contact an emergency clinic in your area, who can contact the Animal Poison Control line run by the ASPCA - they will hopefully have some information about previous Icy Hot ingestions in cats and they should be able to guide you.

Hello. I cannot find the exact product you are referring to, however with cleaning products the most typical problem is irritation to the region where there was exposure. Usually this means that ingestion will cause ulcers and irritation in the mouth, or in the GI tract. I would suggest rinsing out the mouth and monitoring for any clinical signs including vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, seizures, decreased attitude (being very quiet, not wanting to move or play). As long as Clint is acting normally, and isn't salivating (drooling) a lot or acting abnormal, he should be ok. Hair removal cream can cause burns to the mouth, esophagus, and stomach. Because Bhaku licked some off, I would take him into the vet now. The vet can examine his mouth for signs of burns, and will likely prescribe him some medication to coat his stomach (a gut protectant) to prevent damage to his stomach. It's best he's seen by a vet now, so I would take him in right away.

I would check the label of the fly strip. Some of them are non-toxic, and if this is one of them, then it will not harm Marlow. The labels should let you know if there are any poisons or vapors in it. Should you not have the label, then I would google the name of fly strip you used to find out the ingredients. Then give a call to the Pet Poison Hotline at (888) 426-4435 (there is a $65 fee) to get more help, or you can post here again with the ingredient information and an expert can better advise you. Even if the strip is non-toxic, it's still not good for Marlow to lick it. I would bath him in Dawn dish soap to get it out of his fur. You can also shave the sticky parts out with clippers, or take him into a groomer to have the sticky fur shaved. To keep him from licking it until you can get him into a groomer, I would put an Ecollar on him.

Occasionally we may see some stomach upset or irritation to the mouth. I would offer him some food and just monitor him for vomiting and excessive drooling. If you notice any abnormal behaviors then you can bring him in for an exam. As I said, most floor cleaners will dry quickly and won't be harmful unless the pet is licking large volumes up, but if you want to be extra cautious you can mix vinegar with water to make a cleaning solution (though you can't use this on wood floors).
