My cat licked flea treatment, now has smelly diarrhea. Is it an emergency?

Just keep an eye on her. She would need to eat a lot of the product to get sick. You may want to give some wet food with added water to get the product to pass through more quickly. I would expect some drooling as the only side effect. Do monitor her though and should you see any medical problems such as tremors or vomiting and diarrhea then I would take her in. If your cats are showing signs of poisoning, this is a medical emergency and they need veterinary treatment now. There is nothing you can do at home for them, as cats are very sensitive to flea treatments and any time they show signs of poisoning, veterinary treatment should be sought right away. Please take them into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Kittens can be given flea treatment at 8 weeks of age. One important thing to do is make sure the spot on treatment is for kittens only. You can't give dog flea treatments to kittens because cats have a higher sensitivity to the active ingredients in flea medications. Vomiting and diarrhea are signs of a both a mild and moderate to severe reaction to flea treatment, and I would recommend taking Simba into your vet immediately for treatment. These symptoms can get worse and lead to death if not treated promptly.

It's now a medical emergency that Bunty hasn't eaten in 18 hours. If she goes much longer without eating, she will develop a fatty liver which is fatal without treatment. She is quite sick and cannot be treated at home. Please take her into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

So cats are very sensitive to flea treatments, and her symptoms seem to match up with flea treatment toxicity (except for urinating outside the litter box). It may be that the Frontline is causing her problems. I would wash off the Frontline now, give her a bath to get it off if you applied it within the last 24 hours. If it's been more than 24 hours, have her seen by a vet now. Depending on when you applied the Fronline, either wait a week (if the Frontline was applied in the last 24 hours) or two weeks since the application (if apply longer than 24 hours ago), then use a different flea treatment program like Revolution or Advantage. I would not use Frontline again. As for urinating outside the box, this could be due to feline idiopathic cystitis. Stress can bring this on, and a reaction to flea treatment can be stressful. Have her seen by a vet for this. I hope this helps!

Vuk, your kitty needs to be taken to a veterinarian right away. This is an emergency. It is possible that lary was hit by a car, especially if there is fresh blood from the anus. Please find a veterinarian tonight, (even a large animal vet will help) to give fluids, take pain and give at least supportive treatment or euthanize your cat if she is very badly hurt. I am so sorry your cat is so ill.

I would call off to take Lydia. There are other causes to diarrhea including GI illness, eating something rotten, or a foreign body to name a few, so you can't be sure if her diarrhea is caused by worms or not unless she sees the vet. In addition, diarrhea can cause dehydration and a cat should always see a vet when they have had diarrhea for longer than 24 hours. I would keep the Thursday appointment. I hope this helps!
