My kitten is vomiting/diarrhea after flea treatment. Is it normal?

Vaccines can give a kitten diarrhea for a day or two afterwards, and it's a good since that he is otherwise acting normal. It could also be that he has intestinal worms, and I would make sure he is up to date on his deworming treatments. Panacur is a brand I recommend to give to kittens, it's a three day course of treatment you can get OTC from a pet store or your vet's office. You would have to give Henry a second course of the treatment two weeks after the first ends to kill all the worms. He should then be dewormed every month until he is six months old, and then every three months thereafter. If he is up to date on his deworming treatments and the diarrhea doesn't clear up in 48 hours, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. You can try feeding him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts to see if that helps as well. If it does help, continue the bland diet for a couple of days, and then start slowly adding back in his normal diet. I hope this helps!

Have you changed any of her food ? If so, it could just be the diet change as her tummy is still quite delicate and immature and it can take time and a few tummy upsets to get used to all the food ingredients. If no food has been changed, then I wonder if Pompom has been treated for worms. All kittens need to be treated for worms regularly, using a safe product dosed for her weight. You will have to take her to see a vet to get the right product for her. With regards to her food, just remember to change her diet gradually.

Oh that's not good! If it's a topical medication, wash it off now and monitor your kitten for signs of toxicity. Signs include tremors, excessive drooling, ear twitching, vomiting, or diarrhea, take her into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

I wouldn't put any flea medication on her until she sees your Vet. Since she is so young and is a cat we do not like them to not eat for more than 2-3 days. It is time to have her seen. Causes of not eating and vomiting in kittens are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, feline leukemia or FIV, feline infectious peritonitis, ate something gross, ate something causing a blockage, food allergy or intolerance. I would bring a stool sample with you to the appointment. I wish Sibby a speedy recovery!

Persistent vomiting and diarrhea can be dangerous in kittens, so you have good reason to worry. The biggest concern is that he can quickly get dehydrated, which is life-threatening. In order to keep this from happening, he will need to see a vet, so they can administer fluids. They also may be able to find the cause of the Diarrhea/vomiting and correct that. With kittens, I am mostly concerned about infections. Luckily, most of these are treatable, so getting him to the vet as soon as possible will make a big difference in keeping him from getting dangerously sick. No, this is not normal. You did not say which product you used. Some are more likely to cause reactions than others (like Hartz or Seargants). I suggest you use some Dawn dishsoap and wash it all off of him immediately.

The fleas and constant itching can be contributing to the vomiting. I would use a flea comb dipped in soapy water to comb the fleas off her several times a day. This will catch the fleas on her and kill them in the soapy water. You will also remove the lose fur which may be causing her to have hairballs which she is trying to vomit up. Please do get a flea prevention product as soon as you can. When she's treated for the intestinal parasites and fleas she should feel better.
