My cat licked fake snow and is wheezing and sneezing. What to do?

Hello, flocking may lead to a GI obstruction primarily if ingested in large quantities. The chemicals used to dye the flocking may carry their own toxicity if any. You can contact the Pet Poison Control line to be on the safe side and ensure there is no risk to your cat. If you cat otherwise seems to be otherwise acting ok, she either did not ingest any, ingested very small amounts, or the product is non-toxic. He probably has an upper respiratory infection or cold. The sweater wasn’t too tight. It’s very cute! Many cats will cough, sneeze and have trouble breathing through their nose due to congestion. This is due to a virus so no antibiotics are needed. Usually with rest and time Cherry will recover without treatment. If she’s stops eating, or is very congested or lethargic then please take her in for an exam and treatment. In general, an all purpose cleaner like Windex is not particularly toxic to dogs or cats. Obviously if they drink a ton of it or inhale a considerable amount, they can become ill. If inhaled, this certainly could have irritated the airways enough to cause some coughing and sneezing. I would wait and see if this is something passes over the next day or at least becomes less frequent. If some level of inflammation was caused by the Windex, it is possible medication might be required to reduce the swelling. Once again, I would take a wait and see approach on this unless a large amount could have been inhaled or consumed.

It may be due to allergies or she may have developed an upper respiratory infection which can take up to 2 weeks to fully resolve. If Snowy is dealing with a respiratory infection, this could be due to a bacterial or viral infection. To start, you can put her near a humidifier and start her on Lysine to see if this helps. Lysine will help lessen the severity and duration of a herpes infection and the humidifier will help moisten the air possibly improving any congestion. I hope this helps! It could be an upper respiratory infection caused by a virus or bacteria or could be evidence of feline asthma, a heart condition, or other lung, airway, or cardiovascular conditions. Your veterinarian may recommend x-rays to help evaluate the heart and lungs further and may recommend antibiotics or other medications as needed. It's good that everything else is fine, but if this sneezing continues, I would take her into the vet. Take her into a vet right away if she stops eating, becomes very lethargic, and/or has problems breathing. There are a few things you can try at home for her. First, you can try starting her on an L-lysine supplement - this is an amino acid that has been shown to help the immune system fight off respiratory infections more effectively. Enisyl and Viralys are both good brands, and can be purchased over the counter without a prescription - just follow the dosing instructions on the label based on your cat's weight. If she's congested, you can also try using a humidifier or bringing her into the bathroom with the door closed while you take a hot shower - the steam and humidity help to break up congestion and temporarily relieve symptoms associated with respiratory infections.
