What happens if my cat eats fake snow or flocking? Is it toxic?

Christmas tree flocking is made out of plastic and is not much of a concern once it's dry, unless your cat ingested a large amount that could cause an intestinal obstruction. If a large volume was eaten or if it was wet when it was ingested you should contact your veterinarian. Otherwise I think it's okay to monitor for any vomiting or decrease in appetite.

Many formulations of the fake snow are non-toxic but if inhaled could definitely cause some irritation to the airway. If she continues to wheeze and this worsens I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian. I would remove her from the room where the fake snow is and turn on the hot water in the bathroom and let the bathroom fill with steam. Keep her in the bathroom for 10-15 minutes in the steam and see if this helps. If not, I would get her seen by a vet sooner rather than later. I hope this helps and that she is improving! In these cases, the material gets stuck in the stomach or intestines and essentially causes the intestines to bunch together like an accordion. Sometimes this material can also get stuck under the tongue, so if you can safely open her mouth to look under the tongue, that would be helpful. If you see material under the tongue or if it has been less than two hours since Snow ate the feathers and tinsel, consider taking her to the vet to have vomiting induced. If it has been longer than two hours since the time of ingestion, you can closely monitor her for signs of vomiting, lethargy, and inappetence, as these can indicate an obstruction. If you do see any of these signs, Snow should be seen by her vet immediately because obstructions are a surgical emergency. That said, it is also quite possible that she passes this material in her stool.

Enrichment usually means hiding toys for him, food filled toys, cat nip mice, and bits of food. Offer safe chew items (ie: dog bones), lots of scratching posts of the material and orientation that he likes. And if he likes tv, video then provide that as well. Play with him regularly if he will engage with you. Some cats symptoms will get better with a higher fiber diet. Silica litters are non toxic if ingested however If too much of the silica litter is eaten it could cause an intestinal obstruction. Silica litter can also cause respiratory irritation in cats with allergic airway disease like asthma. Since your kitten seems to like to eat the silica litter I recommend finding a different litter type that she is not interested in eating.
