My cats lick Seresto collars. Will they get sick or be harmed?

She should not experience any adverse side effects. I do tend to find that the flea / tick collars are not as effective as the oral preventative medications such as Bravecto. Side effects of the collar may include the symptoms you described. Remove the collar for 24-48 hours to and see if Brewer improves. If not, have him examined by your veterinarian to diagnose illness or injury.

These flea collars are extremely toxic and one should not use them anymore. Tetrachlorvinphos toxic to the nervous system and likely to cause cancer. The collar could indeed have caused these signs in your kitty. There are quite a few flea and tick medications on the market, such as spot-ons that are not detrimental to the health of your cat. Here are safe flea products: Spot-ons and/or chews Advantage, Advantix Advantage Multi (Advocate in the UK) Frontline (ticks as well) Bravecto spot on (ticks as well) - for cats, Simparica, Nexgard Revolution (stronghold in the UK) Tablets: comfortis (will only kill fleas once) Collar: Seresto (ticks as well)

I would recommend staying away from collars if they are playing a lot and they play rough. My concern is that the collars get caught while they are playing. There are great topical and oral medications that can be given and these can be given monthly or certain ones can be given once every 3 months. You can use Frontline plus while they have the Seresto collar but this should not be necessary as Seresto is good for at least 6 months. So I would not recommend applying an additional flea and tick preventive.

Cats are exquisitely sensitive to flea medication, so I would not put the Seresto collar on Willow just yet. Wait at least two weeks, then apply it. You can give her Capstar now. It’s a one time pill that starts killing fleas and is safe to give. I hope this helps!

There is always a low percentage of pets that can still get fleas after starting any flea medication. Also just know that the flea has to come in contact with the product in order to die, so you may see a few dead fleas on her, which is normal. However, with all that said, the risk of her getting fleas is very low while she is actively on flea medication and kept inside.
