My kitten is lethargic with diarrhea. Is ibuprofen safe for cats?

No, Ibuprofen and Tylenol can be toxic to cats. If she seems to be in a lot of pain and your vet can’t see her then you will need to take her to an emergency clinic for treatment. Sorry that she is in pain.

Ibuprofen is toxic to cats and should NOT be used at all. Another anti-inflammatory medication as Meloxicam should be ideally used. Antibiotics may be added as well. I would strongly recommend to discuss this treatment with your vet again. Oh dear! Ibuprofen is quite toxic to cats, and can cause severe stomach ulcers, internal bleeding, and even kidney failure depending on the dose ingested. Since Buddy is having symptoms of a problem and seems very uncomfortable, I would definitely recommend taking him to an emergency vet right away. He/she can do some blood work to determine how serious the problem may be, and will probably also recommend hospitalization for IV fluids, stomach protectants, and supportive care for the next day or two to try and minimize the damage.

Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. Ibuprofen should not be given to dogs as even in small amounts it can be toxic. I recommend that you have Baby girl evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Diarrhea means that Lily is sick. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, she refuses to eat the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

Poor Leela. She will be in pain if she's limping, and unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give her. Many are toxic for cats, and are fatal if given. The diarrhea likely isn't related to the pain. Have her seen by a vet in the morning for both of these problems.
