Why is my cat lethargic and not himself 2 weeks after neuter?

Noodle might be sick. By this point, he should be completely recovered from the neuter. I recommend to ave him examined today if possible. He could have a fever, infection or a reaction to the anesthesia. Best to play it safe. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hi there. I would recommend getting Shoebox to a veterinarian as soon as you can. These signs are not normal after a neuter and he needs to be examined. He could be having an adverse reaction to the medications or have something else happening but with his small size the sooner he’s seen the better.

If no improvement is observed in the next day or so then have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment to make sure that nothing more serious is going on. His castration wound looks good, I see no evidence of infection and he is apparently not licking it either. He should indeed be back to his normal self after three days. You may want to take his temperature with a digital rectal thermometer to check whether he has a fever. should he have a fever ( 103+F) he will need to go back to the vet for a recheck. However the whole excitement from being at the vet's, the anesthesia, the drive in the car may just have caught up with him today. If he is not eating, drinking or does not want to play on Monday, I would also take him back for a recheck.

I'm sorry to hear that Roxas is not feeling well. Most neuter incisions, especially in young cats, heal very quickly and a week would be the minimum I would wait to give him a bath. I don't think you did anything wrong there. I would look at his neuter incisions and see how they look. Most of the time at this point they just have small scabs on them. As for the symptoms you are describing, I would recommend that he be seen by a veterinarian so it's good you have an appointment. It may be related to the neuter since it happened so recently, but it could be a completely separate illness. Please don't beat yourself up. You are doing the right thing in taking him in tomorrow.

Some cats are lethargic and less playful when they have fever (I guess that was checked by your vet) or painful condition, for example muscle pain, joint pain, spinal pain and more. If his activity is not back to normal in 2-3 days I would suggest trying a short course of anti-inflammatory medications.

I'm very sorry to see this. Six hours is an incredibly long time to neuter a cat. We usually do these in under five minutes. However, a vet assistant is not considered to be qualified enough to do these procedures, so this is likely the reason it took so long. If Munchkin was under anesthesia that long, then this could explain why he is acting like this. Usually, cats are back to their normal selves about 24 hours after the procedure with standard anesthesia protocols. Considering much is unknown about this case and that an unqualified person was performing the procedure, I would be concerned about organ damage or internal bleeding causing him to act like this. For this reason, I recommend you take Munchkin to be evaluated by a vet doctor as soon as possible, so they can help determine the problem and provide the necessary treatment and monitoring.
