Cat's leg warm, spasming after blood clot: Is she recovering?

It’s difficult to say - some dogs will fully recover, and if she still has sensation in both legs her prognosis is fairly good. It also depends on what caused the clot - if it is from cancer or another problem that causes recurrent clots it could happen again. I’d recommend taking to your vet since Molli’s exam findings would help determine her prognosis.

That is sad news. It's always difficult when you have to make a euthanasia decision. The blood clot was the result of a heart condition. In my experience these cats don't recover the use of their legs and they die shortly after a blood clot episode, from the heart disease. Therefore I believe you did make the right decision since Jill would not have had a good quality of life and may have suffered if you had kept her alive with such a serious medical problem. A clot that causes limping is VERY painful. We do not expect cats that have thrown clots to recover without significant treatment. So, that certainly makes it less likely that Luna had a clot. However, I would strongly recommend having her examined to see what is going on. It certainly is not normal for a 6 year old cat to be limping. If Luna does not do well at the vet, maybe a house call vet would be a good option for her. The only way to better determine Snit's prognosis of regaining use of the affected limb is through repeated neurologic exams. Based on your description, it sounds possible that Snit may be experiencing either radial nerve paralysis or a brachial plexus avulsion. While function of the affected limb may return, this is not the case for every cat and amputation may be considered in some cases. I recommend taking Snit to his vet regularly for neurologic exams to determine if there are any changes. If there is no improvement after 6 or more weeks, it may be best to discuss amputation as an option with your veterinarian. I hope that all goes well!

This is an emergency, as your cat could be suffering from a riding thrombus, which is a blood clot that keeps blood flowing from the aorta into the femoral arteries. This is a very painful and life threatening condition. She could also have been a victim of a traffic accident hurting her spinal cord. Please take her to a veterinarian or an emergency room right away. The vet will want to do radiographs and a blood test and your kitty will need treatment depending on the diagnosis today.

Hi, I am sorry to hear of Hugo's problem. i think what you are referring to is a blood clot which is making his back legs useless. Unfortunately, this is a very serious condition and cannot be surgically fixed. It is also very painful, so euthanasia is an option most people choose. Some cats can recover from this with blood thinners but are prone to it happening again. Please discuss your options with your vet, as he or she will be the best one to guide your through Hugo's diagnosis. Again, I am sorry to hear of his problem and wish you the best of luck.
