Is my cat's painful leg with yellow discharge an abscess?

Hello. It sounds like Marmalade has an abscess. Based on its location I would worry it may get worse as if can't drain properly. Sometimes warm compressing may help these things but usually wound care and antibiotics are needed. If you do warm compress it and keep it clean and it stays small it may be able to wait until Monday. But if it continues to have discharge, has swelling or Marmalade seems painful he should see a veterinarian before then. Do not give any human pain medication as it can be very toxic to cats.

I would be suspicious that some of that pus and inflammation has migrated to the leg and is causing pain as well. At this point I think this may be require more investigation into the underlying cause of the abscess. I would be suspicious of foreign material that has migrated and is underneath the skin. If that is the case, surgery and possibly further diagnostics like a CT scan as well as long courses of antibiotics may be needed to treat this appropriately. A culture of this wound should be obtained if that has not been done to make sure that the correct antibiotic is used. Poor Luka! From the picture you have provided, the edges of the wound make it appear to be an older wound, not a fresh new one, and it appears to be healing. That being said, I cannot rule out any additional wounds or any infection without seeing him in person, and it is a pretty good size wound. To be safe, yes I would take him into the vet just to get it checked out and to make sure there aren't any other problems. I hope this helps!

Sounds like a bite wound or a puncture wound from something Skye could have snagged herself on while out and about. The wound needs to be explored, flushed, and possibly drained. Skye will very likely require some antibiotics in order to get better, as well as anti-inflammatory medication to control pain and/or fever if she has one. I would get her into the veterinarian in the morning at the very latest so that treatment can be instituted. The longer you wait, the worse the infection can become. Hope this makes sense.

It sounds like Kuro has a cat bite abscess and a severe fever from the infection. This will require antibiotics and antiinflammatory medications to be prescribed by your vet, especially when it is the lower leg that is affected as this can lead to very serious infections of the joints and bones. Yes, that appears to be an abscess. What you are smelling is infection. Chances are it won't clear up without oral antibiotics. I suggest you get him to the vet for an exam and to get some antibiotics. You can try applying a topical antibiotic cream/ointment but it is rare for that to actually work on it's own. As a side note, male cats that are not neutered usually get into a lot of fights so if you don't use him as a breeding animal you may want to have him neutered to minimize the chance of this happening again.

It sounds like Kit has either an abscess or cellulitis. I recommend to take him in to the veterinarian's office today for an exam and likely antibiotics as well as pain medication. The doctor may recommend to drain the abscess as well (assuming its not cellulitis). Infections after cat fights are very common. Hope Kit starts feeling better soon.
