Why does my cat have itchy white bumps on his skin from scratching?

Skin lesions like you are describing can have a variety of causes, including skin parasites (fleas or mites), an infection (bacterial or fungal), allergies, or another underlying medical issue. I would recommend he be evaluated by his regular veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for his skin lesions, so he could start any treatment (antibiotics, anti-itch medications, parasiticide) that he may need. In the meantime, I would clean the area will diluted betadine if possible and then keep it dry, and trim his nails back as much as possible to keep him from scratching at it. Good luck!

Hello there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. From there description, Bugs may be dealing with a skin infection Or insect bite hypersensitivity. Mosquitoes and fleas can cause bad allergic reactions after biting a cat. Your vet may prescribe antibiotics and / or flea medication. I would get her examined by your vet to determine what the primary cause is so she can receive the most appropriate treatment. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Sox. Is he biting or scratching the area? If so, he may be creating areas of self trauma due to be itchy. The most common causes of itching is allergies and fleas in cats. If he does not seem to be bothering the area, it could also be a ruptured cyst. This usually begins as a swollen area under the skin that then opens up. A white to grey material will ooze out. It would be a good idea for Sox to see his veterinarian to determine if a medication is needed. I hope this information helps!

It's possible they are small localized areas of infection. If they persist, worsen or other signs develop (itching, scratching, etc) I would advise taking Steven to your veterinarian. These lesions may just resolve on their own without any treatment. Again, monitor them, if changes occur have your vet evaluate them. Your vet can get a firsthand look at them and recommend treatment if needed. Good luck

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely a skin infection which may be secondary to something like allergies. The infectious component would have to be taken care of but it is crucial to take care of the possible allergy as well so this does not continue to happen. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

Cats get a variety of skin cancers, and also can get raised bumps as part of allergies. It could be related to Jelly's itchiness. I don't think this is an emergency, but I would recommend getting him to a veterinarian early next week for a check up to determine if this a mass that needs sampled, or a allergic flare up that can be treated to get Jelly more comfortable. An itchy lump on the neck could be due to an infection in the skin. They can get abscesses if something gets stuck in the skin, or he get bitten. It could also be a type of tumor. Mast cell tumors can be itchy, but are not as commonly seen with cats. Other causes of lumps in the neck could be an enlarged lymph node, enlarged thyroid gland and different types of cysts. However, none of these causes tend to be itchy. It's best if you have a vet examine him to ensure he does not have signs of the more serious causes. Usually we can find out the cause of these lumps on exam with minimal testing. It will be well worth getting it diagnosed sooner rather than later. It's not an emergency, but would be best to have her seen within the next week. I hope that helps and Skippy gets better soon.
