My cat's itchy eyes/ears not better with vet meds. What's wrong?

It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There is no specific medication to put around his eyes necessarily though there are medications like prednisolone that can help with the itch. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

However, these are only going to help with the itch temporarily. However, it is crucial to get rid of the allergic component and treat the allergy as if not, the itch will continue. Also, it is crucial to treat the likely secondary infection. There is no at home treatments as the other medication that can be used in cats for this is a prescription medication called prednisolone. One thing you can do at home besides dealing with the possible allergies is using an e-collar which you can get from your local pet store or online to prevent any further self-trauma. Hi there, It would be helpful to know what Elsa what tests were performed, what was diagnosed, and what medication she was prescribed. It may be that her ear infection is truly secondary to underlying inflammation from a food allergy (cutaneous adverse food reaction), and she may need a change in diet, or an environmental allergy and in need of chronic allergy medication to reduce her itchiness. Some dogs also require long term regular ear cleanings and topical ointment applications to keep comfortable. I would recommend scheduling a recheck appointment with Elsa's veterinarian to get to the root of her ear infections. I hope this helps. Hello, sorry to hear about Sugarplum. It sounds like she may have a persistent ear infection. She may need to have her ears cultured to make sure she is on appropriate antibiotics. In addition to a longer course of oral antibiotics, she may need to have antibiotic ear drops prescribed as well. This could be associated with foreign bodies in her ears or a middle or deep ear infection. She may need to have a sedated ear examination. Hope this helps and best of luck.

This could also be some sort of infection perhaps. This requires further diagnostics which would be done based on an exam. Your veterinarian would be better able to proceed with the needed diagnostics to try to determine what may be wrong. I would highly recommend you have him reevaluated by his veterinarian since things have worsened again. They may be able to proceed with further diagnostics and treatments accordingly. Good luck!

Based on your description and the pictures you have provided, this sounds as though Boba may be dealing with an allergy. There is nothing concerning in the pictures. It is difficult to say what the cause is as there are so many things that can cause allergies. I would recommend by starting with the below recommended products.
